Thanks for the additional information. It is possible that your PC updates have triggered the problem.
When did you last successfully access the FCF forum? The last significant forum software upgrade was done on 22nd September. That included a fix for a problem rather similar to yours, but it was believed to only affect certain old versions of Internet Explorer.
I would really like to know which browser version you are using. Can you go to https://www.whatismybrowser.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; note the details in the blue banner at the top and paste into a message here?

My brouser is "Internet Explorer 9 on Windows Vista"

It must be over 4 weeks since I've got in FCF.

Just a note - I asked the wife to open FCF at her place of work but that failed as well BUT I'm not in a position to find what brouser they use.

I'm going to reset my computer back to before the last updates and try that - I've had a few issues following updates so it could be that.

Maurice

Tried that - still no go!

Thanks, That has allowed me to reproduce the problem. IE version 10 does not have the problem, but I am not sure if Vista will allow the upgrade.

I am not sure that there is a quick fix at the server end, but I would strongly recommend that you install and use either Firefox or Chrome browser to workaround this issue (and for generally better internet security).

SORTED - I've downloaded Google Chrome and now I can get in!!!!

There's probably a problem with using an old brouser and Vista.

Thanks for your help Xantia_V6 - have you changed from the Xantia to the XMs? I went the other way, had a 2.0 TC VSX for over 16 years before buying the Xantia V6 (both autos).

I had a chat with the developer of the phpBB extension developer responsible for the code causing the problem, and it seems that the bug which he had patched for phpBB 3.1.5 came back when we upgraded the forum to version 3.1.6. I have now applied a new patch so you should (if you wish) be able to access FCF with your old version of Internet Explorer.

Yes I had Xantias for 14 years (mostly Mk1 V6s), but could not resist a very nice XM V6 when we moved to France. It is hard to say which model suits me better.

Thanks for that

I'd love the V6 XM, I bought my TC VSX at 2 years old, it was still a roving demo (1 of the 1st series 2 cars) and loved it. It got to about 185,000 miles and loads of little bits that wanted sorting when I found my V6 Xantia with 48,000 on the clock so a no brainer really.

Is your XM LHD - with the 'proper' steering?

Yes the late (ES9) V6 is a very nice car, mine is LHD, with manual transmission, but Citroen discontinued DIRAVI when they changed to the ES9 engine, probably because there was too much work required for DIRAVI + anti-sink. I sometimes daydream about retrofitting DIRAVI, but I doubt that it will happen.

The Xantia is a better car for throwing around corners, and I find the Xantia electric seats more comfortable than the XM.

Pity about the DIRAVI steering.
I only drive autos so don't know what a manual XM would be like. My 2.0 XM had the original torque converter box which was very smooth, unless you were really pushing it you couldn't feel the changes. The V6 Xantia has the computer controlled box that is great fun in 'sport' but can still be driven gently where the changes are very smooth.
I agree with you about the 'throwing around', the XM was very controlled but much heavier - XM was perfect for long journeys whereas the Xantia exhaust note can become a problem (I just turn up the music).
I agree with you about the seating, I always felt I was sitting 'on' the XM seats where you sit 'in' the Xantia's. I came from a CX to the XM and remember initially being very unhappy with the XM seating, thinking that I needed to be about 20 stone to make them right.

The original Xantia exhaust was rather quiet, but most cars have had replacement systems which are rather louder and not to my liking. There is (or was) one polish supplier who had quieter rear silencers. I changed the exhaust a couple of time until I was happy.

When I bought my V6 (series 2 1999) it still had the original exhaust on it and there was a continuous burble that could get a bit much on long runs. I've now had everything from the manifold back changed and it sounds about the same.

It's still a cracking car, great fun!
