I'd be extremely surprised if a Merc diesel estate (which I guess for durability and DIYability would have to be OM601/2 or older with inline pump rather than anything common rail) would manage the 50+ economy...Dieselman wrote:Mercedes diesel..Peter.N. wrote: What other car has the combination of ride comfort, space, self levelling suspension, durability, a potential 50+ mpg and you can repair yourself? Re: Which is your favorite car?
Well, as far as RR, it was the odd man out but still a damn good allrounder and listed too illustrate the diversity
of cars that could get listed in a wish list/best ever/most impressed etc thread. Now with the P48, I know what
you mean - I've driven one and was impressed by it's ability but the new ones do though ramp up the looks/luxury/
desirability without detriment to their ability to such an extent no motoring journalist can stammer more than awe
so I fancy one - proper one now, not the Cheshire model....
Where could a list like this go? Muira, DS (obviously decap saloon and estate), it could go on and then there are the
cars which weren't for sale - Citroen Activa 1 and 2 prototypes, the Lancia Fulvia modern prototype or how about
a fully kitted out with the film props BTTF1 Delorean?

Re: Which is your favorite car?
When I was too young to drive I lusted after the Porsche 928 and still feel the urge to get behind the wheel of a 928 s4
if nothing else to get it out of my system. I've always loved GT/cross continental cruisers rather than the Lotus7 point
and squirt cars which all my mates used to drool over and pretend they were driving in their Mini's nasty Crapi's etc.
That amazing Cadillac that was featured on Top Gear driven by May fits this mould very nicely - wasn't it a v16!?
<<EDIT - yes, found it and it's unsuprisingly called the Cadillac Sixteen>>
it certainly has presence!

Re: Which is your favorite car?
yes the Porche 928 is a properly nice looking car, and very capable one at that, i know exactly where you are coming from there Andrew.
'They' say that the newest proper Range rover is the best off roader of all the rangies, which is no mean feat considering that most new cars end up getting fatter, slower, less economical and generaly worse over all as newer models come out. just look at the figures for the MK1 24v xm or indeed the MK2 V6auto and the 3.0v6 C6!

For : about as much room, not a bad ride for springs, nice interior, did think about one.
Against: Rustbuckets, very expensive to repair, very difficult to find a manual, non self leveling suspension (all round), fuel consumption not as good.
Good but not good enough.

i dont lust after ferraris or aston martins, never have. I prefer the Lux o barge myself..
