I fear I may have been a bit quick to slate the Pirelli tyres. I'm still not impressed with what happened but think I may have found a contributing factor.

Before we went away for the weekend we'd ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's for the 207. They were delivered on Friday so when we got home from down south today I decided to go out to the shed and fit them. I took the old Pirelli off the rim, fitted the new Michelin and stuck it on the balancer. The weights it was asking for were odd...

On the inside of the rim the machine said 10g however on the outside it said 100g. I spun it again and looked at the rim and noticed that as it was spinning there was a flat spot on the wheel.

I'm just wondering if the flat spot on the wheel could have contributed to the shredding of the tyre.

It's months since I've driven the 207 but I'm amazed that Cheryl didn't feel it as she was driving.

Things like that may only be felt at high speeds David and if the last garage to fit the tyres didn't devote some intelligence to the balancing - as you did - then the massive disparity noted would have been blindly balanced out so Cheryl would have felt nothing...

The other way round. Whatever damaged the tyre was enough to flatten the rim.
