I enjoyed this edition of the magazine - I wonder why they didn't do a run down of all of the COTY from each year at least as a list. The CX was car of the year in 1975 and they featured a well-known Turbo in the magazine but the connection was not made!

Practically every new Citroen since 1970 was COTY: GS, SM, CX, VISA, BX, XM, ZX, (xantia was second place behind the new Ford Mondeo in 1993) etc. That's quite impressive - wish they'd dwelled a bit on that. Not to mention the Citroens that also won 'Diesel tow car of the year' (XM TD Estate won this I'm certain..)

Would also have been nice to read comment on what each goven COTY changed in the industry. The VW Golf was second position in 1975 to the CX but the Golf GTi certainly was COTY in something like '76 or '77 and certainly raised the game for medium hatchbacks thereafter.

Good edition all the same - I read mine while actually sitting in my CX 8-)

After being all over the place with work I just managed to find a copy of Practical Classics the other day, admittedly I don't normally buy any of the mags unless I know something XM or Citroen related is going to be in it.

Was great to see your cracking mandarin XM on the cover Will, and of course the closer shots in the article itself.

Like others, I wished there had been more in the write up, but it was great to see it featured all the same. :)

Here is a link to the Wikipedia page listing the winners and second and third placed cars since 1964 including the voting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Car_of_the_Year
As you will see, Citroen has done quite well with the GS, CX and XM all winning, and in 1971 the SM was also placed third!
With regards, Matthew T.
PS. Sadly the COTY event at Maldon next month has been cancelled as they only managed to get 30 of the 50 cars!!
