Fixes to sort fixes to sort fixes to sort more fixes. Stupidity everywhere, including most of the 'hybrid' offerings, some of which actually burn more hydrocarbon fuel than their ancestors. EGR systems that clog the engine, and burn yet more fuel. Cats that block and choke, demanding yet more right foot. DPF fiascos. DMFs that disintegrate, taking perfectly good clutches with them, having sabotaged even experienced drivers' attempts at decent hill-starts. Cars abandoned because a sidewall gash couldn't be sorted, with the dealer more than happy to sort you a wheel and jack for an extortionate sum. Supermarket fuel that dirties up your fuel system, then requires even more pressure on the has pedal to make adequate progress.
For those buying new, these final days of the internal combustion engine are already not a lot of fun, and set to get worse. Believe what the manufacturer tells you at your peril.
Rant over.

Re: Aren't new cars awesome!!!
Well I got a complimentary oil and filter change this afternoon but the service manager was adament that it is normal, I pointed out I had just chopped in the BT50 which had done 140k hard island miles towing stuff out of holes it really shouldn't have and all that had was prop shaft bearings and a warrantee job at 12k when the cam belt snapped, it had to have tyres and wiper blades too but more important a service every YEAR, not bi monthly! He didn't seem to bothered so ive left it with him that if I have to come back within 6 months because the sump is full off fuel that should be in the tank they will be taking the car back, end off.
I don't enjoy being a bottom cavity but I'm not taking the car in for an oil change twice a month it's stupid.
Rant just starting!

Re: Aren't new cars awesome!!!
It sounds to me like the car manufacturers shifting the responsibility for dealing with the imperfect technology used for DPF regeneration onto the owner, ie covering their backsides.
There are many anecdotal reports of Citroen HDI/DPF engines being wrecked through 'runaway' incidents where the most likely cause has been an excessively high oil level due to fuel dilution. I would recommend owners of such engines to keep a careful eye on the sump oil level between changes and act if the maximum level is exceeded.
Plenty of videos of diesel engine runaways available to watch on YouTube - scary!!

Re: Aren't new cars awesome!!!
Well it went back into the garage today and.................there is nothing wrong with it, aparently the most likely explanation is they filled it with oil to the incorrect level marker when it left the factory
obviously.
They pumped out the excess oil and poured it over the front of the car i think judging by the mess. Not much i can say to that, will have to keep an eye on the oil level and see what happens.
I can just imagine the man who's job it is to fill the engines with oil just slipping in the the extra couple of litres by mistake

Re: Aren't new cars awesome!!!
A quick fix to remove excess oil /derv, rather than removing undertray etc.
Take one piece of plastic tubing (as windscreen washers)
Take one large syringe (as supplied by inkjet cartridge refill companies.
Fit tube to syringe.
Push tube down dipstick hole.
Suck up some oil.
Repeat above until enough removed!

Re: Aren't new cars awesome!!!
You are fortunate it has a dipstick. A friend recently asked me to hack a look at his new A3 diesel. The oil level light had come in and stayed on. He had put over 5 lts of oil in and it was still on. I told him it wasn't a good idea to over oil a modern diesel engine and why didn't he use the dipstick....The car doesn't have one....WTF?
Who thought that was a good idea? Are people so disconnected now from their vehicles that the manufacturer doesn't expect them to check oil levels?
Us xm owners benefit from an oil level check on the dash but only a looney would trust an electronic sensor without a tried and tested back up like a dipstick.
Over engineering again...
Don't get me started on my particular bugbear...The electronic handbrake.

I would invest in one of those oil changing pumps. I have one and it is very useful not only for intermediate changes but also for priming pumps and bleeding brakes etc.

Strangely enough the DPF on the Scenic never caused a problem - unlike lots of other items. That surprised me because my trip to work was only 3-4 miles.
