I had to read that a couple of times, Peter. Then I got it, toe-in :D But why did you decide to ignore the manufacturer's recommendation for toe-out?

A local garage that I use for my MOTs made the necessary adjustments and I was charged for one hour's work (£30). The re-alignment made a real difference to driving pleasure and I guess with the Diravi self-centering feature the problem was increased! Regards, Matthew T.
Yeah, the Diravi. I'd know how to adjust that. Have done that on previously owned vehicles ;)

The new machines at Kwik Fit apparently cost a fortune, hence the price hike.
After new ball joints/track rod ends took my Xantia and her majesty's Fraud to a local guy who still sets it up the old fashioned way with masking tape on tdc of the steering wheel. £15 a piece, in and out in less than 20 minutes - not a problem since. :D

I'm afraid that as almost every car I have had has needed toe in I didn't even look to see what it should have been  but I set the wheels pretty well parallel, it doesn't seem to have had negative effect as on average I was getting about 30,000 miles from my front tyres and the wear was always even.

It could be that if there was any uneven wear I adjusted it accordingly but I don't remember having done it - but then I don't remember very much nowdays. :?

I must admit that I did not know the Diravi itself was adjustable Jan and fortunately the problem in my case was wheel alignment! With regards, Matthew T.

I never considered whethere DIRAVI was adjustable, but guess the centre position must be set somehow. The corerct sequence must be to ensure an equal number of turns to each lock thenleave the engine running and set the wheels to that self centrered position.

I think most people here on this forum are familiar with the unique DIRAVI of the SM, CX and XM. The self centering of the control unit on the steering column will always force the steering wheel in the straight ahead position. The actual position of the spoke on the steering wheel in most cases shows a slight deviation to the right or left, which is not an issue. If the position of the front wheels does not correspond with the straight ahead of the steering wheel this will cause the vehicle to pull off course, left or right. Therefore accurate set up of front wheels and steering wheel is crucial.
On my CX's I made the proper adjustments with the eccentric adjuster on the steering coupling unit. This changes, as will be clear, the relative position of the input and output shafts of the steering column. Adjusting the track rods is of course another option.
I hope I did not lead anyone to believe there is a special protocol to adjust the DIRAVI. The latter after all is just the name of the steering system. The control unit and the governor are not adjustable. I apologize for any confusion raised
