I'd have to say that the Lucas pumps are meh.
Bosch Bosch Bosch for me everytime. They just go on and on and on and take any old crud.
I know how good they are at economy and taking abuse. I got 800 miles from a td xantia running veggie oil

The Lucas DPC pumps are nicer to drive with a lighter accelerator and instant reaction to inputs.

I prefer the Bosch over the Lucas too. Much nicer to drive.

DPC. The Epic is very agreeable, very sprightly compared to the Bosch. I have had a couple of manual DPCs and Bosches, and I preferred the Bosch. To be truthfully honest, I preferred the Bosch pump that was sitting on a 2.5 lump most, but thats another entirely different matter!
The Bosch was quicker, smoother, and more forgiving and progressive.

I'm getting about 27 in the V6 using the same method of calculation.
That 18 mpg difference (66% improvement) versus 7% cost premium for diesel wouldn't half make a difference given how many miles I'm doing each week - about 500. The car would pay for itself in a few months!

The Bosch has the best thing IMO. Over design. The Lucas is designed to such tight tolerances that I'm sure if dust got into the fuel and past the filter it would kill the pump. Bosch just nailed this area and with the few stories of seal replacement I've heard being the worst things to happen to them.
If you really want economy an nice 2003/4 c5 hdi110 8v hatch. 50+mpg is easy enough in them
