Don't worry, if it fits it'll be fine. Done that a couple of times now. Seems you ordered a Surprise chocolate egg as well? :)

I don´t know where that toy figure fits into the assembly. I think it might be a special Citroen part, something to do with the fuel filter. It´s Citroen part 232387. The Xantia V6 used it as did the Xsara diesel (1997-1999). You can´t get them new now but I know Pleiades can either recondition it or supply an Airfix 1:24 US Marine action figure which works very well as a substitute.

No, no, that won't do. I tried one of those in a Xantia V6 and the US Marine just didn't cut the mustard. All that woks as a substitute is a Spongebob Squarepants.

The component is essential to soak up dangerous free radicals in the fuel before they can reach the fuel pump and damage it.

The mechanic ´phoned just now to say the replacement pump didn´t fit. It was too narrow so it would not stay in place. Is he making a mistake of some type?
I have written to Rob Smart to get a hold of the one has for sale (thanks Malcolm for the link).

This is odd. The mechanic has told me the Bosch serial number from the old pump, taken from the car is 0 580 453 024.

He says the Citroen part number from his microfiche is 15 25 43 (also the Peugeot number). But if I look up that part number the corresponding Bosch number is something else: 0986 580 185

A Bosch parts catalogue says the number the mechanic cites is that of the pump for the XM. So, were there two pumps with two different numbers used in this car?

I had a look at other pumps on sale. One for a ZX and XM and a Bosch unit which supersedes the one with my part number 0 580 453 024 has a black cylindrical sleeve which would close the gap between the unit I was sent and the tube it sits in. I suppose that part is missing. A 20cent plastic spacer!
Here is the Bosch unit on e-Bay:
