Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
A guy (known on the mailing list as well) over here can read out and reprogram them. He did it with mine as well, although that was a later radio, not the Clarion one hence no way of making it code free by soldering. I don't know if Clarion is possible as well but it'd be easy to ask.

Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
This original radios are coded by soldered Links on the circuit board. "Hard Coded" not software coded.
The Later S1.5 Radios (Black Fronted)

ones are software coded, and is stored in a Chip on the cuicruit board, you could be refering to these units.

Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
No, I have an even later S2 one but that's not important here. He can reprogram quite a lot of them. Or not to reprogram but to read the code. That was needed in my case, too.

Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
As Paul said, these are not programmed electronically, but by jumpers. Just recode it to 1112.

They can all be reprogrammed, its just the method that is important.
As has been stated above the early Clarions have coding by hardware soldered links.
The later Clarions and the Phillips have EEPROM rewritable data storage chips.
Ideally we do not want someone else to reprogramme these radios.
We would be very pleased to get reprogramming information.
So for the early Clarions we need a diagram of the links and a decoding chart relating codes to links.
From each type of radio with EEPROM we would like a dump of the data stored with a note of the code locations plus any algorithm needed for the code calculation.
If your friend is willing to pass on any of this information it would be restricted to non commercial use.
With this we could reset the code in a radio ourselves.
For the purists among us we could then even set a radio back to the code when the car was supplied new.

Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
John,
I made a tiny chip reader that worked through the old fashioned "Parrallell" printer port on a desktop. I sucessfully read the Chip data from the Later Series 2 XANTIA radios... The code was the first 4 digit number on a 6 leg chip on the PCB that came up.
I cant remember if I managed an XM radio though.. it was some time ago.

Re: Original Radio/Cassette player
John,
He goes by the name of Phoenix on the Yahoo-based mailing list and his server is often linked to as hosting various XM-related stuff so he's not an outsider by any means. I don't know if he members here or not.
If I remember correctly, the chips in question communicate via the I2C protocol (very probable, after all, what else?). I also have a programmer for this but I built it and use it to reset my laser printer toner cartridges, not Citroën radios.
Actually, I didn't actually build it, I would have done it twenty years ago but these days, it was much simpler to buy it over the net from a specialist web store for a couple of euros... That way you have the software and everything included and it's USB rather than old serial or parallel which makes it much easier to handle now and in the future.
