Got a lead on a 2nd hand cable, tracking it down Tuesday am, took the cable out this afters (in the blooming rain) , the induction pipes were easy ,they were all off for a leaking heater hose 2 months ago, and yup it is the plastic that gave way on the pedal side, still trying to get the cable off the pedal itself tho  but if there is a machined version already made still available from citxm Ime still up for it.

Yabbadabbabloodydoo :D , tracked down a 2nd hand clutch cable, picked it up this morning, only 20 miles from my house would you believe, thought it would be a machine shop jobby. Bucketing with rain right now so will try to fit it tomorrow.
The guy I got it from is Bryan, used to do a lot of work on XMs and BXs, but now does work on C5s and C8s on their pollution systems.
He still has a load of spheres to sell off, tail lights and odd bits and bobs, he dumped a load of parts years ago due to lack of interest.
Also tyres for a GS (remolds custom done for him), a large 1300 GS engine, hes an indie who downsized his shop to solo but still has stuff hes looking to sell on.
He has the kit for making up Hydraulic lines as well, also for sphere testing.
So if your looking for stuff you can give him a call and no Ime not on commish, just a happy client.

Well Bridgette is back on the road, cable was about an 1 1/2"s too long but made a couple of spacers to go on the clutch side, my guru Graham fitted the cable to the pedal as my back wouldnt take the contorsions to do it, as luck would have it the bloody thing went on first time, quick test drive up and down the street and smiles all round, including the road crew who wanted my car moved to dig up the street and during all this it just peed down, soaked both of us thru, but what the hell it worked :D

Now its MOT time, due in on Wednesday, Tax due end of month.

Not only back on track but just passed her MOT :D , only cost a new brake cable and 2nd hand rear ex box, dont like the new certificates tho...just plain print paper, not the old color ones and no wee sticker reminder.

I need a quadrant too! If anyone has one and is prepared to sell it, or knows where I can get one it will save my XM from a lingering demise.

Someone posted in the week that AEP were advertising a new cable for about £60.
There adv mentioned one in stock. I expect this to go quickly if they still have it.
It is always worth phoning them as they often have more stock than they quote in ebay adverts.
