I didn't think it would hang around long.

I think I know who might have got it, although they're not on any forums etc. Unless it was anyone on here?

I think she might have been too cheap and by the way I did not buy her!! As I recall David got about £2,750, although it was on the market a while and that was up north, I hope she has gone to an enthusiast and turns up at a rally some time! Maybe David bought her back. Regards, Matthew T.

Not guilty I'm afraid although I did consider it.

It was certainly up for sale for less then I got for the car, the guy had also spent a bit on it as he didn't like the feel of the clutch (it felt fine to me though!), he'd replaced a couple of engine mounts when the engine was out, and he'd had it totally waxoyled.

Someone has got a lovely, totally original, incredibly rare XM.

I was only joking David, although I can understand you being tempted! Just out of interest why did the engine have to come out and did the guy do it himself, if not that must have been costly? I seem to recall that you changed the driverside engine mount yourself. The 24v transmission is not the smoothest, although I think the lhd is better, probably because the clutch cable has a much shorter route. With regards, Matthew T.

Matthew, the chap didn't do any of the work himself, when he bought the car I put him in touch with BL Auto's in Welwyn Garden City where all the work on the car was carried out.

The engine and gearbox were removed in one piece to have the clutch changed, why I don't know as apparently it was no different when it went back together.

I changed the drivers side mount as it was perished when I took the mount off to change the thermostat.

Crikey David that must have cost a packet!!!! I had the clutch done on my gold 12v insitu at MrClutch for around £350 a few years ago. Hopefully given the mileage of nearly 130k he also did the head and exhaust manifold gaskets whilst the engine was out! Regards, Matthew T.

Exhaust manifold gaskets I don't know about but am pretty confident he didn't do the head gaskets.

I think I would have been sorely tempted to do both David, what with the engine out and that mileage! My gold V6 head gaskets failed at 130k approx. and the exhausts were well spent! Regards, Matthew T.
