Wow...that must be rare. It was a bit boxy, but it too me at least it was a neat little design.
You can see the really strong NSU look, but it was soooo much smarter than the VW 411 for example.
The Passat replaced it didn't it.... My parents had a mk1 B1 '73 to '81 ( can't remember the exact year ).....dark green with beige interior. Wood dash too.

Thought so. Of course the Passat b1 was also the Audi 80. Just been looking at the old passages....quite a few body variations. Seems our version was quite rare. Had quad headlights. They replaced the Passat with an Audi 80.... Then sense prevailed and they went french....Renault 21.

Reviewing that crease over the front wheels of the NSU: The two lines needed to bend further downward over the front wheels. This would counteract the apparent straightening of the lines when seen in front three quarter. This is caused by the fact that the curves not only bend downward. There is bending towards the car´s centre line.
A car needs to look great in the front three-quarter view. If it doesn´t something is wrong. The amount of extra bending of the feature line required may only have been a centimetre. It seems like an entirely soluble problem, a mere matter of tailoring.

I hope that was of interest. I may add one or two bits of data. There is a 1976 comparison from a French magazine which tests among others the CX Prestige, Gamma, R30, Mercedes 260E. I also note that the Audi 100 was revised in 1976 with a new model. It looks about five or eight years fresher than the 604 which retains a whiff of the 60s while the Audi heralds the 80s very clearly. At the time both firms were firmly in the ranks under Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes.
