After all, it does not cost a lot to get the original code,so why spoil the radio wit all kinds of re-programming (with a hammer?)

Citroen keep a record of radio code ex factory.
It is referenced to VIN and not radio serial number.
They similarly record ex factory Lock identification number and remote code details.
The standard dealer charge is £20 per enquiry.
Citroen require them to confirm vehicle ownership before releasing data.
No record is usually made of any service changes of radio, locks or remote even if done by a dealer.
Even with new cars some dealers did not bother to fill out the owners codes reminder plastic cards that went with the owners handbook.
So you pays your money and have to hope nothing got changed.
New locks and keys can be purchased on special order manufactured to specified identification number.
Factory cut keys obtained this way are far better quality that locksmith copies and not particularly expensive.
Remote sets and components can similarly be ordered this way but for Mk2 XM's they are very expensive.
£100 per item or £300 for a full set and that was some years ago.
When I get the chance I will post key and remote code identification details.
