Thanks for your comments Chaps and sorry for the late addition of yesterdays photos due to top up problems. The Milau bridge is an inspired solution but don't forget a British Architect was involved! Regards, Matthew T.

We had a free day today with no onward travel while there was a local scrapyard visit involved that Russ and I opted to attend. Although the yard had several older cars unfortunately only one XM was present, an early S2 base spec. 2.1 diesel, which however did render a certain crucial part for Neil (more anon). In the afternoon Russ and I ventured slightly further north to the amazing walled city of Carcassonne that could not be missed. At a petrol stop I spied the nose of an XM that turned out to be a 1990 2.0i for sale for 1,000e with 360K!! Tomorrow we head north-west to begin our journey home, necessarily missing out the further mountain roads due to poor weather today. With regards, Matthew T. PS. We have clocked up almost exactly 1,400m to date!

There was furthers quite extensive travelling today but the experience was dominated by a quite serious breakdown of the gold XM!! There was a lovely mountain climb initially with sharp bends and fantastic views. Around midday a high pressure pipe sheared on the steering rack from movement in the ram and we suddenly had a pool of lhm beneath the car. Very luckily the problem occurred in a supermarket car park and the manager was very understanding. In brief the AA sent a local garage who eventually managed to assist with fabricating a replacement pipe, with the original already removed from the car. Once the new pipe was fitted we sped onto the campsite arriving just before dark with time to erect our tents and cook supper. Of course the whole situation could have been much worse and there were some compensations in that the garage had a 605 on their drive and the final journey was superb, through gorgeous countryside. Regards, Matthew T.

Bad luck, don't you hate braking down in France......;)
I believe these pipes are NFP and are giving problems at times with the V6? But quite impressive the local garage you found was able to make a new one. Keep his address so he can make a few dozen for all remaining V6's ? Impressive as well the way you were able able to take the leaky one off and the new one on. I know of a V6 that got scrapped for this reason...:(
Bon voyage!

Many thanks Jaap and it could have been much worse! We soldier on with another 100+ miles under our belts and so far so good! With regards, Matthew T.

Inconvenient, but nice to get a quick fix. How is there movement in the ram?

The outer securing bolt worked loose Will and luckily there was no damage other than the sheared pipe!! Regards, Matthew T.
