That is correct, it went from a switch to a potentiometer. The switch only activated the valve at idle, the potentiometer allows a proportional volume of EGR at low accelerator postions.

I've fixed it.

Unfortunately assembling my pump incorrectly had damaged a lug on the spring device which transfers movement from the accelerator lever to the governor which effectively rendered it U/S.

I decided to have another shot with the Xantia pump and although I was convinced that I had fully engaged the woodruff key I'm embarrassed to say I clearly handed because this time it started and run well, and after full reassembly and a test run it runs just fine albeit performance slightly blunted which I hope turning up the fuelling may ameliorate. A good result!

Thats a good result, i think the 1.9 to 2.1 pump swap has been done before on Xantia's with much success so no reason it shouldnt work on an XM, good work.

I thought Paul tried a 1.9 pump on an XM to see if it worked. Again it did. Of course that could be selective memory!

Any diesel pump will work, but getting the fuel delivery right will be the issue.

I suspect a Bosch pump has more than enough overhead to deliver enough fuel for 110Bhp.

I fitted one on a 2.1 td auto.. But only ever started and idled and shunted around the yard.. Not driven on the road to see how one performs.. 2.1 pump to a 1.9 i can understand... Your putting a higher power set pump on a lower power engine.

Thanks guys, I'm very pleased to be back on the road. Before I alter the fuelling I am going to advance the timing *slightly* as I think it is a touch retarded (the car is noticeably quieter, starting slightly less instantaneous and idle ever so slightly rough).
