There is some confusion in the article between 2.0 petrol engines and 2.1 turbo diesel engines.

Twice the 2.1 diesel is referenced, when it should say 2.0 petrol.

The first time it says 2.1 diesel atmo is lacklustre. That should be 2.0 petrol, as the diesel atmo was never sold in the Uk.

The other reference is in the buying price guide. It says the cheap cars will be diesel estates...which couldn't be further from the truth, unless they have done inter-galactic mileages and are very tatty.

The least desirable engines are the 2.0, 8v and 16v units, followed by the 8v turbo.
The diesels and V6 are the ones to go for.

A late V6 is a real wafto-matic machine...

Another respected magazine win and a decent appraisal and read, which gets over the main point...Xm are an incredible car for the money (when new and now) and can be looked after on a DIY basis.

On.that note, who are the small, but dedicated band of enthusiasts, mentioned.
We could do with getting them to join the forum to help us out.

Curious as to why the 2.0 16v is one of the least desirable engines?

It's due to being a bit underpowered for the Xm, a four cylinder so less refined, also some of these units did suffer piston slap due to the short skirt pistons.

If the 16v at 140bhp us underpowered then the 2.0i 8v at 130bhp is worse.. And those I had I did think were bad..

Well, I'll find out soon enough. Picking mine up on Monday... It a less desirable 2.0... but tbh, I'm just happy to have one, and everything crossed that it's as it sounds. 🤣
