Hi all. So I went down the road today, got to a junction, the car dropped though that may be coincidence cos that happens sometimes, the turbo needle, the fuel gauge, the thermo gauge and another all went down to nought. I filled up, when I came back two rear lights were on, one either side, inside the car the green, I think, it’s sidelight lamp was on on the dash and the rear lights remained on. I tested the front lights, the dip doesn’t work on its own, only with the main beam. The rear lights won’t go out. Please…what’s going on!?

Is there trailer wiring fitted?

In the absence of other data, start pulling fuses until the lights go out to see which circuit the power is coming from.

The only thing I can think of is that I fitted new dipped bulbs with a relay and wiring 2 years ago but why would that affect the other things?

I suspect the ignition switch cut the feed, hence the instruments dripping to zero.

Well now the fan doesn’t work, nor the blower, no side or dip beam. Rear lights remain on. The dash green sidelight indication is illuminated. All the instruments are stuck in start position and don’t move. I suspect a relay but which one would do all that? Where do I start?

What investigation have you carried out so far?
Pick a single circuit and work through it, the other faults will then become apparent.

Possibly either a main battery to body Gnd lead, or the main fuse/relay board has a fault, maybe water in it.

I note most of the items you list are Ign controlled, but it appears some items have lost power and others gained it.
Without looking, I think all those will receive power from the fuseboard, so look in the diagrams for a common connector, or item.

Hi. I think we re on the wrong track. I checked fuses for the items I have told you about. All were blown so I replaced them, they all now work. Turned to the relays regarding the Headlamps. All seem ok. The packs I put on either side to brighten the dipped beam I took off. The only problem we have is that the DIPPED headlights only flicker or mostly don’t work when they re connected to the booster packs and the side lights back and front remain on ignition on or not. This is the case if I have the booster packs for the dipped lights connected or not. We looked at the earths and all seem ok. We are left with a possible scenario that there was some kind of surge which for some reason blew certain fuses, caused by a problem with the front lights possibly or something else on the light/indicator stalk. So the side lights back and front are on all the time so I have to disconnect the battery and the headlights full beam work but the dipped headlights don’t. I considered the coincidence that it was the lamps with the booster packs that I put on which seem to be the problem but they have worked for over two years with no problems. If it were the packs causing the problem, then why are the side lights permanently on? We seem to be left with the situation that the stalk is the issue. What does everyone think before I take it off and how do I take it off? I do have a spare on my donor car which I can try.

It could be the lamps/indicator stalk contacts have melted due to increased current load.

I'm not sure what you mean by "booster packs". Are these HID lamp ballasts?
