Paul Breeze Roberts aka "CitroenXM"

Paul Breeze-Roberts, a good friend of mine is 47 years old and was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (bone marrow) cancer in 2020.

After diagnosis, Paul spent a month away from his wife and young son at the Christie NHS Trust Cancer Treatment Centre in Manchester where he underwent a stem cell transplant after which it was hoped he’d have the all clear for 10 - 15 years.

Paul then underwent a huge spinal rebuild with pins and plates as the cancer had attacked his lower back and his bones were disintegrating. Even after all this, Paul had to endure radiotherapy and chemotherapy and after months of treatment was told that his cancer was at bay.

This type of cancer never goes away, it just sits dormant, or it sits sleeping for a better way of putting it.

Towards the latter half of 2023, Paul unfortunately started to notice that he had horrendous pains in his ribs which didn’t subside. After more scans and tests, the doctors have advised that the cancer has reared its ugly head once more and this time it’s not letting go. The treatment that was hoped to give him 10 - 15 years had given him 18 months.

Since all of this started, Paul has been trying to rebuild his Series 1 V6 Citroen XM, a car Paul is very fond of. When he’s been able, Paul has done a lot of work to this car but the last job he did to the car which only took a few hours wiped him out for a week.

A group of Paul’s friends have decided that we are going to get this car finished for Paul so that he can see it done and hopefully get to drive it and reap the rewards of the work that he has put in to getting this car back on the road.

Due to the hardship that has been caused by Paul’s illness and with his health deteriorating so quickly, having a commercial garage carry out the work isn’t feasible so we want to do as much as we can to help Paul get to see the completed car.

The Goal:

Plan A:
We want to find a garage to do the remainder of the work. We are then going to transport the car from Anglesey in North Wales to a mechanic and pay for the work to be done.

Plan B: (the most likely one)
If we cannot find a Citroen Specialist who can do the work quickly, I am going to trailer the car from Anglesey to my home in Glasgow where we can finish Paul’s car as a group, get it through an MOT and return it to Paul (with a full tank) ready for the road.

I know times are hard for everybody at the moment, however, Paul has spent over 20 years helping others, sharing his Citroen related knowledge to assist others in fixing their cars, he’s also stock piled masses of parts which he’s often given away or sold cheaply to other enthusiasts in an attempt to help them out of a jam.

If you are able to spare some cash to assist us in helping Paul, it would be amazing to be able to repay some of the help that he has given to others in his time of need.

If we are fortunate enough to be able to raise enough money to sort Pauls car out, anything that is left over will be given to Paul and his family.
