A nice surprise

Decided to get an insurance quote for my early S1 petrol as a 2nd car while deciding whether to keep it or not.
Expected it to be a few hundred.
Shocked (pleasantly) when it came back with the quote of £91 including legal expenses cover, breakdown cover, windscreen, personal accident & zero excess. Plus £45 cashback for going through Quidco comparision, so just £46 for the year after cashback.
There I was thinking insurance was on the increase.
Definitely a good reason to hold onto it for a bit anyway, it'll be nice to drive around in something that doesn't look like a modern clone car.
A couple of pics of the car yesterday.

That is a nice surprise, I obviously need to look around more, though I take it that is a limited mileage policy.
Xm thrive on being used, so go and eat some tarmac.

Yes it is, just 2k miles a year, I don't expect to do that in it as I've a diesel that I run on home brewed bio so do the miles in that.
The company insuring it, and the other companies quoting, seemed to be those that specialise in classic cars. I didn't specifically request classic car insurance though. So maybe it's low due to its age.
I tried getting 1 day cover with Cuvva a couple of weeks back to take it out and it was declined due to age. So it could be now it's seen as specialist insurance for this car.
Going by the RP number is seems it'll be its 35th birthday in a few days, and first registered a couple of weeks later. Another 5 years before becoming tax and mot exempt.

Further to this, check the insurance policy documents this morning and it's conditional that I have cover on another car that I use regularly. So that'll be why it's low priced.

That's normal for a classic policy.

But only if it can be parked on a drive (and that is why the classic car insurance rejected my Red 1995 XM). At the moment my blue one is till occupying the other place on the drive.

Strange, mine is kept on the road and selected as such with the quote.
Road during day
Road during night
Try using the Quidco website for a quote. I went with Grove and Dean.
If you're not already with Quidco use my referral link, we'll both get £15 and if you take out a policy, another £45 cashback.

Always a welcome surprise when classic car quotes comes back! Only thing to watch is you generally don't accrue no claims bonus, also in my experience they are unable to increase mileage cover mid-term, so worth making sure it's accurate from the start.
