LHD XM in UK.

Hello.
Since the last thread about LHD cars is getting old and the rules keep changing, I’d like to ask whether any forum members use an LHD XM as their daily car? I’d like to find out more about insuring such a car and what the registration process involves after importing it from EU countries (France, Poland, Lithuania, etc.). What additional costs are associated with importing such a car since the UK left the EU? Do I have to pay any extra fees if I own the car and drive it into the UK myself?

Thanks for any information and help on this.

There’s a detailed description of the import process on the Government website https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk
VAT is payable, but at a reduced rate of 5% I believe, provided the car is 30 years old or more

You can no longer perform the import process yourself, it has to be done by a professional company registered with NOVA.

Thank you for the information.
Another situation I would like to ask about concerns transporting a car on a trailer outside the UK for repair, and then bringing it back (also on a trailer) after a period exceeding six months.
The next question that comes to mind is the case in which the car, while being outside the UK, has been modified — for example, a different engine, colour, etc.

Can I transport a car that I own outside the UK without any additional fees or forms?

I'm no expert on this, but Afaik there is no restriction on having a Uk registered car repaired outside the UK, but it can't be used outside the Uk.
As long as it is SORN and not registered anywhere else, who knows where it is?

Notifiable modifications would need declaring once the car is back on the road in the UK.
