some people are just very shoddy in their work practices

Image

This would you believe was damaged a long while ago when the engine it came from threw a con rod from piston 3, whoever done the work left this on number 4's con rod, and welded up the sump where conrod3 punched a hole in it, must have got damaged as the conrod for its neighbouring piston in the l/h bank flailed around............it is also, i suspect the reason oil pressure was low despite my dads best efforts at curing it over the past year.
Who would put that back in an engine???

It a triumph V8 out of a stag so its been kicking about a good few years, thing that amazes me is its £380 for a new crank with main and big end bearing, pistons, rings, small ends and con rods, there is new pistons in there and its been rebored so why not just do it all, its not a massive amount of money considering what you get so why have it rebored with new pistons and then replace just the one dead con rod............

Would be interesting to see the fracture faces.
That can tell a lot.
It might not have been broken right through when reassembled.
A small tight crack can easily be missed even if inspected.

that is what i thought but the faces are dirty and an even dirty colour too, nothing that would suggest the crack finaly made it through recently, the wear on the bearing also seems to suggest it has been broken for a while, the engine rebuild was supposed to be done 3500 miles ago so i would say it looks very much like it was put back like this.
