changed accumulator sphere ! what next ?

Post by harryjoe » Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:36 pm

Hi all.

Could anyone advise me on what i should do next, i had a hissing form what i and Phil thought was the accumulator sphere.
Today i have changed the said sphere, now it's not making the noise as often, but still does it after about a minute or so, and then stops, and then repeats it's self , when you give it a little gas it stops straight away.

So could any members tell me , could it be the pressure regualtor, or just a lazy pump ?? or could it be something else , the car rides perfectly, and changes height perfectly as well.

Not sure what to change next, as both the parts above are very expensive, not unless i can get hold of some through the forum.

It does not seem to affect the cars running, but just enoying that it makes this quite loud hissing from time to time

Thanks Guys

This is perfectly normal for a car with a flow distribution valve, i wouldnt worry about it too much if i were you, it wont do it when driving and not when the engines warm either replacement with a new item will be exactly the same, its just a bit of citroen character

I would agree with Dean, it probably stops when you rev the engine.

Yes it stops when you rev the engine.
As this is my 1st Xm, i'm still getting to know the car, thats piece of mind to know, if it's quite normal , i know french cars do have a habit of making some strange sounds on the odd occation, ;) ;)

But we love them, and i'm over the moon with this one purchased from Phil.

Mot next week, see what happens then, will see some of you at Little Horwood Later this yr

All my Xms have FDVs and they hiss and get on like this as well. It is totally normal. If you turn the wheel as well it will stop hissing. Blipping the throttle will cause it to stop hissing momentarily.

I wouldn't say it was normal - but a lot of them do it :D

Ok, I'm used to it and consider it normal behaviour. My Si did it when it had 17k on the clock...

Hi Robert

I think its because the pressure is insuficient to completely open the valve at tickover, I have only had it on higher mileage cars, but like you I have got used to it.

So is there nothing you can do to stop it ?, i'm quite happy if others do it and there is nothing that needs replacing then i just get used to it  .
But if there is a way of stopping it , then i may look into it,
I will maintain it regardless of cost, it will want for nothing, ( with in reason ) thankfully there doesn't seem to be to much wron g with it yet ;) it's got an Mot next week, then i may then take back what i just said   ,

One thing that is getting up my nose is the n/s mirror, it seems to be stuck in one possision, and i can't see a bloody thing in it, the interior switch is not working, so iv'e no way of getting it to memorise any set possition, is there a way of disconecting it, so it doesn't adjust itself when you stick it in reverse???

Hmm.. Might be onto something here.

TBH, I can't remember whether my brand new S1's did it or not.

If it's pressure then checking the pump and regulator pressure would be worth doing to see if system pressure is down on spec.

I'm waiting for Pleiades to come back to me with a price for a pressure test kit. Does anyone have one to loan?

Mine isn't a problem, but I would like to set the pressure correct for optimal hydraulic operation.
