Appologies if this has already been mentioned on here.

This months (july) issue has a road test of the DS, CX, Xm and C6. Its quite a good article

Davetherave showed me his copy of the current classic & sports car mag last weekend at the DSM event, ive just remembered and got my own. Its quite a good read.

Whos is the XM in the test? Its a silver 2.1TD SX hatch Auto - N247 GMB. I saw it at last years Weatherby CCC event. anyone on here?


Also nice to read about the 15-six in the 'our classics' section.

I bought this last night on the way home from work.

Must admit though, as far as content about the XM goes it was a little disappointing really.

I have to agree with David, interesting article (which I'll scan and post up when I get a minute), but as stated, the XM content was a little disappointing.

In my opinion they should have used a series 1 car, as it stands, they had a silver series 2 SX with cloth interior, which was derided for its Peugeot dash and steering wheel. In the company of DS, series 1 CX, and C6, it admittedly did look bland by comparison. Still, they did mention the origins of the car and some interesting history on it, and the actual XM on display was a well looked after example.

Yes, the Xm doesnt really feature too much in the article.

It does mention it has a glassfibre bonnet and hatchback ...

As i said before, i do prefer S2 Xms, but in that spec it does look a little plan compared to the other 3 Citroens.

what useless idiot told them that! The bonnets were ALL metal!! The even the BX was plastic!

They never ask the "Proper" knowledgeable people do they!

Hi Paul,

I think you were meaning to possibly say 'Then even the BX was plastic' or 'Then even the BX wasn't plastic'
if I'm correct ?

But if so, either way that's wrong too !

As some early MK1 BX's had both plastic and metal (I had a 'C' reg. 19RD with a metal bonnet and also a 'C' reg.19DTR with a plastic bonnet) both which were long nosed and then towards the end of the production run of the BX, metal bonnet's started to be used again (possibly to use up old stock) in both short and long nosed bonnet/guises seemed to have been fitted, though with no real explanation to why ?

So there you have it, also it's been the topic of many discussions on the 'BXC forum'

Plastic bonnets cost more, which probably explains the switch back to steel later on. I thought all very early long bonnets, for diesel, were metal to hold the weight of sound deadening and petrol engined cars got plastic to save weight.
It sounds like all variants went to plastic after a while.

The text in the quote is what I stated NOT 'citroenxm' (Paul) wrote its not making sense at all this now is it the heat/the football/beer

Also be aware that I'd go as far and bet that they were more plastic bonnets fitted to DIESEL BX's in the UK (with sound insulation to both long nosed and short nosed guises whether manufactured in plastic or steel).

The long nose bonnets were normally for the N/A aspirated versions and the short nose versions were for the TD versions to accommodate the inter-cooling transfer ducting and the posh TXD 1.9 N/A diesel's also had the short nose version bonnet to accommodate the two bar Chrome grill !
