Best Pug Forum?

Post by Kit » Thu Nov 11, 2010 5:59 pm

I realise that some members of this forum will have difficulty with the words 'Best' and 'Pug' appearing in the same sentence, I think I would agree. However my daughter has presented me with a Pug 207 that needs a new head gasket. The Haynes Book of C**p lives up to it's name, so I am looking for a pug forum that is oriented towards practical diy rather than gobshite. Any ideas? Thanks Kit

Hi Kit

The french car forum is one I frequent, especially as I shall soon be the owner of a Peugeot

Or perhaps http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 is better

I guess a 406 estate.

Sorry, but having had a series 1 and series 2 can say they are not a patch on an Xm.

You'r right :D

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SS:GB:1123

Not a patch on the XM as you say but better than the BMW, its an Hdi - which I also said I would never have, fantastic fuel consumption, I nipped into town this afternoon, 14 miles average 49.5 mpg :D :D :D

If a another nice estate comes my way I shall have that as well, I am still running the white one but tis a bit tatty.

Peter, this reads and looks like a tidy example -although high mileage.

Don't tell me, did u look into HDi territory helped by what I was writing few months ago?! As u say, u were a sworn enemy of HDis! Or was the need of a big estate that pushed u to do it?

Why not a Xantia estate though? Because the 406 is bigger, I guess?

I'm very keen to be hearing your impression of these HDis -especially as the other cars u drive are the IDI XMs. I bet u can do 65mpg on ur motorway trips if u already managed 49mpg in the city (!) -r u sure the computer is accurate?!

cheers

Im a MASSIVE HDi Fan aswell, and they are NOT bad what so ever!!

Theres two main things to watch for, that being the Engine Pump, and in tank pump...

If you have access to a Lexia then theres not an ounch of worry at all!!

Ive got 5 or 6 HDi engine'd cars around me... 4 Xantia 110bhps, and a 2.2 C5, which, is not mine, but I hate, its problem after problem for the owner, were as the 2.oi 8v 110 Xantias are AMAZING!!!

Ive got one ive started running, and so far 48mpg at around 70 - 80mph.. Mum has a running 110bhp, and just also got an X plate 110bhp, with a VERY RARE turbo fault, seals have failled... and My taxi cistomer, and another with a 2.oi 8v 110bhp C5....

The 2.oi 8v IS the BEST HDi engine, coupled with a tuning box to equal 2.2 power, and better consumption, you CANNOT go wrong with a modern DERV!!

Hi George

I certainly have been influenced by what you and many others have said about the Hdi, I have gleaned a lot of information lately that has caused me to reconsider, plus evidence from ebay which shows quite a number of 200k + cars for sale and a few 300k+, this is XM/Xantia territory.

I still consider common rail engines in general to be less reliable and more expensive to fix that the old Idi's, but from information gained it seems that the 8 valve Hdi can be a reliable and durable unit. Paul has been especially helpful as he has hands on experience with them.

I am very impressed with the economy, achieving nearly 50 mpg on my first trip into town, 14 miles, most of it up and down steep hills. Don't like the ride on the 406 of course, perhaps I should have had a Xantia, although the seats are very comfortable.

Thanks for all your input.

Theres one good thing about a higher milage HDi - like yours Peter, theres a damm good chance that its had a New In tank Pump, so you shouldn't have a problem there, and also a good chance its likely to have had an Engine Pump too!!!

NOT saying shes has had an engine pump though... but tank pump is highly likely
