I love the 7 series, and the Rover 800. I really like these 800s. I was looking at them on e-bay the other night. Tempting, tempting. I'd like a Honda V6 fastback 800.

Here is the one i had ( well not THE one but same shape, colour, age. I had the 2.7 honda V6 (827 fastback), one of the first old shape cars to get it in preperation for the facelift and i liked it very much.
Trouble was it wasnt as comfy as the xm by a long way, but it didnt handle well either and of course with 177bhp it had some go but not enough go to wow on the straight either.
Its one of those cars i would love to borrow for the weekend but wouldnt buy another, it just doesnt do any one thing well imo, but thats just me.

The post '96 800s are a differnt car to the earlier ones, IMHO the 2.7 honda V6 was the best engine of the lot unfortunatly never available in the post '96 cars, it was repalced with a V6 rover steam engine ... Haveing said that the 2.7s do handle, but you have to drive them is a specific way, which will enable you run round the inside of a chaved up saxo on a round about while changing the CD in the stereo.. mind you all mine were sterlings or Vitesse's. This one has the T-16 turbo motor, rated at 200BHP, however I'd still rather have the 2.7 honda engine I think this one is teh 17th 800 I have had..

My bosses had Honda Legend saloons then Coupes. As with all Honda's the roadholding was dire. One had new Michelin tyres after a few weeks to see if it helped...it didn't.

your dedicated then , i do love a nice bit of Rover every now and again and im partial to the odd 2 series bubble aswell. I didnt know the 24v honda unit was only pre 96, all the real early ones i saw were rover units, did the post 96 rover V find its way into the 75? that one is supposed to be a little weak.
The troubl i had with the Fastback was it was an understearrist, the xm may be soft but it does have the advantage of some pretty controlable lift off oversteer in the mix and the Rover would never do that, although i think all cars should have the time delay headlights and fibre optic stalks of the Rover, along with the flashing interior light to remind you to take it out of gear when stationary, top class thinking from the Rover boys

Your was a real early 2.7 then! they droppd the delay lights and the illumianted stalks almost as soon as the 2.7 repalced the 2.5 honda V6! would ahve been an E reg at alstest with those (although it would not surprise me to find '87 production sold in '90). But the understeer could be tamed, drop down one more gear than normal, use teh clutch to control the wight tranfer to the front wheels, and it would almost oversteer.. diffuclt to expalin but it does work!

The delay lights returnd with teh last of the XX (mk1) cars, and continued with the R17 cars (Mk2 800). The otehr thing it shoudl ahve done is turn the rear wiper on with reverse gear if the front wipers are on, did yours have teh VCM as well to tell you of bulb failure/open doors?
