it started!

Post by messerschmitt owner » Thu Mar 17, 2011 9:16 am

Well, this morning I threw a fully charged battery on the scrap 2.0 Sei - it started second turn of the starter - not bad for a four month lay up!

Anyway, I am having problems contacting Andmcit - who seems to have disappeared off the forums! He owns half the car and I need to scrap it next week as work is moving on 2 April to new offices.

So, are there any volunteers who want to help me take as much off as we can on the 26th of March? Payment in kind - parts, really. There's lots needs to come off it, and a couple of hands will ensure it gets more thoroughly dismantled than what I can manage on my own.

Seats have gone, struts have gone, parcel shelf and rear interior window have gone, wheels and tyres are mine, panels are Andy's, armrest and air con panel are gone too, but there's a running 2.0 engine and ancillaries, a nearly new steering rack, trims, dash, etc.

Car is in Stroud, Glos, ample tea and coffee facilities and even power.

Struts are gone, is that the TOPS aswell, if not and they are still on the car they NEED to come off...

I guess the straight 2.oi engine is getting rare now.. but sounds like there isn't too much left.. actually.. id be interested in the rear subframe (4 bolts thats all!) but your too far away for me to come for the day really

If the exhaust is off, and you undo the height control connecting rod, the subframe will drop off as a whole unit, after shamefully cutting the front to rear pipes...but Im holding my luck here, as I guess its too big to store..

No matter ... I was just throwing what I thought important..

Paul
All I want is for as much to be saved - I can store things at home but the subframe is probably too big to get back there from work. I have about three days to rescue anything back home.

There are lots of ancillaries, dash, glove box, trims, starter, alternator, lhm reservoir, ecu, sunroof (which works), fuel pump, petrol tank, fuse boxes, whatever - if it can be unbolted, I'd like someone to benefit from it - as the alternative is hi-abbed onto a scrap truck. The carpets are all good as is headlining. Most of the interior is already unbolted, but I am taking off seatbelts at lunchtime, plus the lights if I can manage them at this time. Next week, she'll be going onto axle stands to dismantle the struts and tops, and remove the exhaust and cat.

I understand North Wales is too far for the day - it's 150 miles down here from Chester.

Keep the sunroof. They're easy to remove and swop into another car.

Robert

ta!

I just e-mailed Andy with progress report on dismantling - the roof lining came off at lunchtime and I started to dismantle the sunroof then, then thought better of it as I realised it would get wet inside if I removed it now.

The inside is stripped - there is nothing left (apart from centre console with electric arm rest - see PM), the front carpets are still down but I have removed the boot one for use at home.

the spare is the original and is brand new - still holding air and looks OK - but it is twenty so I am not sure I will rush to use it . I'm moving the XM tomorrow to the other side of the car park so I can get power if I need it when dismantling.

What comes off depends on Andy being in touch.

How hard was it to remove the roof lining and get to the sunroof fixings. The reason I ask is that My sunroof is adjusted as high as it will go and is still not quite flush with the roof, so I guess the cradle had dropped a little somehow.

Is this a single spoke steering wheel, if so...

Andy and I removed all the plastic trim in October - today I simply pulled the headlining off, starting at the back and working to the front - it was off in about a minute and a half!

I'll try the parking brake pedal - but that I ain't promising.
Will,I have the parcel shelf and rear inner screen at home (plus mounts and trim) now. Safe and sound!

Robert, shall try and get as much wiring but don't want to accidentally cut any part of the loom that would stop it starting and driving as it still needs to go up and down and off to the other side of work's car park.

That leather wheel looks promising.
Does the remote key work and is it a matched S1 lockset all round, if so... :)
