Well more to the point I have regained living room space! the black leather seats are now in the Exclusive, its amazing how much longer it takes to put them in!

Of course I could have done it a lot faster if thats all I did, but the amount of dog hair, mud and old peanuts etc that came to light with all the seats out meant I spent most of today cleaning it all up before putting the leather in. I also took most of the centre console to bits and cleaned that as well including the trim round the ride height lever. There was so much dog hair in the car it was unbelivable!!

The other thing I found was that the car seems to be wired for heated seats, as the plugs and wires for the seat heater switches are present. But I can't find the other ends of these that plug into the seats themselves which would be rather good as the leather I have does have the seat heaters

If the car wiring is Mk2 then the 9 pin black plug that connects to the seat has all 9 contacts present for heated seats or a few contacts missing for non heated.
Mk1 heated seat wiring has a seperate connector with a simple temperature regulator in the seat wiring.
Mk2 heated seat wiring has a small ECU on the seat base to interpret the 3 heat settings from the control switch.

Ahh helpful, the seats are from an S1.5 car. How are the rear heaters connected on an s2? As ther seems no sign of any wires to these?

There are two seperate brown connectors, one for each side, usually found stuffed into a hole low down on the "B" pillar.
The next looms are one each side from the pillar to each of the rear seat heaters.
The ECU box on these looms are fixed behind the side squabs of the rear seats.
Most Exclusives did not get these looms and ECU's fitted.
Waste of time searching for them except in an exclusive that had heated seats.

So I should find the conector in the 'B' pillar? but will have to make my own lead to link that up.

These seats are S1 seats, initial investigation with an AVO says the heating elements in them are intact and will work once power has been supplied to them. If I have read your reply correctly they just need a switched 12v supply to work?

The car is an S2 Exclusive and does seem to have the plugs for the switches. If I have got it correct it's likley there is wierirng to main connector on the front seats? and a coenctor hidden in each B-Pillar, which will need a link peice making up to accatch the rear seats? Is there a wireing digram for each of these systems that may help me?

The connector in the "B" pillar is a hangover from the Mk1 where the heater switches for the rear seats were in the rear door pull.
Mk1's were simple on/off switches (green plugs) feeding the seat heaters. Your front seats show the wiring needed for the rear seats.
The Mk2 front loom has all 4 switches (yellow plugs) which are more complex (3 heat levels and off) with an ECU to interpret at each seat position.
So you cannot use Mk2 switches (no ECU's) and will need to modify the front loom for Mk1 switches if you can source any.
The Mk1 front and rear sxwitches were physically different so the rear type will not fit in the centre console.
Citroen have not been able to supply any of these switches for some years now.

If I was to use mk1 swithes id use 2 sets of front switches! Then they will fit in the rear. I have recollection they are in fact the same as the rear window inhibitor switch, although keyed diffently.

What is in the mk2 seat heater switch? I would guess it has a number of contacts for each setting, I can live with only one setting working and I would be surprised if it was hard to arrange this.

If im not mistaken, S1 rear heated seats are a single heat, with the switch in the DOOR next to the window switch, also the fronts are a single heat with a single push button in the centre console.

I cant see the point of 3 heat levels really, as half the time Level 1 and 2 never work ...

Mk1 heater switch has 4 wires.
2 wires are the supply to the switch internal illumination bulb.
2 wires are the heater feeds.
Not sure if the seat heater panels are in series or parallel but a check on your seat wiring will confirm this.
As the switches you intend to use are hard to come by I would be tempted to fit relay feeds to the seats.
Then the switches run at low current to operate the relays.
That could avoid burning the switch contacts and preserve the switches you have..
Never taken a Mk2 seat heater ECU or switch to bits so you will have to look at the yellow plugs on your loom to get an idea of the switch wiring.

Indeed the rear seat heater switches are in the door on an S1. I had an S1.5 2.0 SEi with them, a car I wish I still had, it also had the clarion cd changer under the passenger seat. However the S2 has them by the rear ashtray. I think the s1 seat heat switches are form memory identical to the rear window isolator switch so I may modify one of those
