Nearly there with the Cobalt one..

Post by Dieselman » Tue May 31, 2011 3:24 pm

I've just taken the newly acquired '92 Cobalt SD for an MOT test and it failed...but only on rear lights having a slight earth fault causing dimming and o/s steering rack gaiter split.

I've ordered a gaiter kit for tomorrow and will do the rear light contacts in a minute.

I've also phoned DVLA to chase my V5 as the car still show as scrapped and they are happy the car is genuine and will remove the scrapped marker send out a V5 tomorrow.

The other red car is looking more precarious than ever as I put the jack through the cill today as the car came back down.

Just as an aside, the brake test was interesting to see. The dials jumped straight up to a really good reading, even off the rear, much quicker and higher than other cars being tested.
Even the parking brake managed a good reading.

I haven't decided what to do with the mandarin car yet, I started it up to move it today and with a nearly flat battery it fired straight up.
AFAIK, it has two problems. the cills are pretty corroded, there is some rust in the o/s rear inner wing due to the tow-bar fitment and the front o/s brake calliper is seized. other than that it is pretty good to go through an MOT.

Paul, what are you looking for, parts or a complete car?

The Cobalt one is the manual...which drives very nicely even before new spheres. The visual parts of the body are the worst part of the car, everything else is very good, and I've just done the head gasket and timing belt.

The delay one the V5 has been the "scrapped" marker. They are removing this and sending a V5 tomorrow. :)

I don't understand why they have needed weeks to do this.

At least there is progress being made.

They sent me a questionnaire to send them the VIN again and engine number, on 10th May, but then nothing, hence my call today.
