I suspect that very few of those are mark 1 Clio's.

We have the same issues working out BX numbers - from registration dates we can make a pretty good estimate between MK1 and MK2 cars, but the DVLA figures don't seem to separate hatchbacks and estates. We thought Timex was the only Mk1 estate on the road in the UK, but 2 more have been spotted in the last 18 months or so (mine's still the earliest registered though!)

1995. It was more an idle observation than an assertive statement. I've really got no idea.

How many left says there are 60 of that year left on the road.

My point was simply that the website is displaying Clio RT Auto's accurately.

The model variants will depict Mk1 or Mk2 cars.

I have the DVLA download and you are correct, the body style isn't separated.

That is a heck of an attrition rate on BX, 180,000 in1995 down to 580 in 2014.

Model designations didn't necessarily change with the introduction of the Mk2 BX - 19RD's for example carried on being built for 2 years in Mk2 form. To complicate matters further, there's also evidence of cars being registered incorrectly when new. Most of the model designations changed when the Mk2 BX was facelifted in 1990, yet there are at least 5 14TGE's that I know of registered as 14RE's, which it replaced - I used to own one. This skews the figures to show much fewer of the later model surviving than the earlier one, which is not generally the case.

That is a huge attrition rate, and it seems that quite few early models had already been scrapped by the 1994 figure - the 19RD estate used in many road tests in 1986 (for example) was last taxed in 1991!

It would be better if when vehicles are declared scrapped, the DVLA changed the marker from untaxed to another, as it would clearly indicate if a vehicle is no longer in circulation.

It seems very sad that there's so few left.

The same here in Andalucia. We see only one BX (a white Mk2 hatch, and a bit of a heap, but still is use) with any regularity, and perhaps just two or three others in the course of a year. A real shame. We actually see more Mehari's locally now than BXs!

By contrast, plenty of ZXs about, including estates.

In our local Citroen main dealer workshop a couple of weeks ago was a somewhat scruffy AX, I think a 1.1 petrol, which had, would you believe, gone in for a new engine, and I mean new. The brand new carb alone (also fitted) would have been enough to have been the final straw for most folk, but a complete new engine???? Main dealer supplied and fitted???? Parts guy simply said that the owner was "very attached" to the car. Shackled, more like... Oh well, it takes all sorts...
