I know Barry Annels has a couple of XM's in his 'collection'. Whether they'll see the road again.

I used the XM as my every day work car for over 15 years, I was a TV engineer and you could get a lot of sets in an XM estate, in those days they were very large and very heavy. I was covering 30,000 miles a year at one time as I was going all over the country buying ex rental sets.

I think I have had seven XMs in total, all Bosch pumped manuals and all but one estates, I still have one which I hope to return to the road before I die but there seem to be so many other things to do. I did all the work for the last MOT but it failed on a cracked windscreen and that's all that's keeping it off the road. I ran CX's for 10 or more years before the XMs

One of the problems is that the C5 and 406 I'm running at the moment are better on fuel and have cheaper road tax, the spares are also readily available and cheap. The XM was excellent on fuel for an IDI engine and would easily return over 50 mpg on a long journey but the Hdi's are doing 60 mpg under the same circumstances.

Anyway, pleased to hear that there is at least one other on the road.

Peter
All between 1992 and 1996 will have Bosch mechanical pumps.

Yes, that's what mine were but what proportion of those still in existence are 2.1 Bosch?

Peter thats no excuse!

You could run on veg and even dilute with some diesel when needed and still be far cheaper running the XM than a C5 :)

There are 344 2.1TD on the road, so lets say about 40% being Bosch. I could check, but it would be a bit laborious.

That's fine, I wasn't looking for an exact number just what sort of proportion of all the cars left are 2.1s, among those that are for sale they seem to be in the minority. I did buy an EPIC engine but never got to use it. Most of the Mk2 XMs I had were registered in Jan 96 which were the last manuals and Bosch mechanical pumps and all YBL registrations, there still seem to be a few of those about.

I took mine off SORN on Saturday after it was tucked away for the Winter. Still need to sort out an oil leak, bleed the brakes and look into the airbag light before we're good to go again.
