Cruise Control on Series 1 24v?

I know that some of the Series 1 12v V6's had cruise control fitted to them from the factory but the 24v's didn't.

Does anyone know if you can remove the kit from a 12v and retrofit it to the 24v? Does anyone have the kit sitting in the shed that they don't need any more?

I'm doing the Classic Citroen Challenge next year in mine which works out to be 3000 miles in 7 days for me so would really like to have cruise control if at all possible!

Any advice/suggestions/comments welcomed!

David.

Hi David

A standard Vac Cruise was used by Citroen for fitting to all XM's except the 2.5's which got a unique electronic engine ECU based system.
According to Jim on FCF the standard Vac system is generic and fitted to many other manufacturers cars as well as Citroen.
I suspect that all will fit easily except perhaps adding the wiring and clutch switch.
XM Vac cruise was generally limited to Autos so you might need to raid a V6 manual Pug to find a Clutch switch.
Might be worth a word with Jim over supply of bits and fitting.

I considered this too..

Making a Clutch "Knock Off" switch wouldn't be that hard... It only has to be a switch thats "On" when the clutch pedal is released - making the mounting braket may be a bit more of a challenge..

It is possible to recover the WHO system but theres some wireing that goes through the fire wall above the drivers foot which when I recovered one I could NOT get out alone and ended cutting some wires up!!

Would the switch from the auto brake pedal fit the manual brake pedal??

The existing brake pedal switch often has the extra contact.
Check the number of wires in the plug.
As I rember Auto brake pedals have the same switch block as manual pedals.

When I retrofitted the extra switches and wiring to get the ECU controlled cruise operational on my 2.1TD (Epic pump), I added an extra brake pedal switch by using the existing switch to energise a new 12v relay.
The hardest part of the job was getting a 4 core cable between the cabin and the engine compartment and I finally settled for bringing it through the passenger footwell floor as the bulkhead is virtually impenetrable with the engine in place.
