More IT woes

Hi All

Anyone know if the early versions of XP Pro (0 & SP1) have problems supporting USB2?
I also need an HP compaq D530C recovery disc. Info to get the onboard gigabit lan working would be useful too.

I have a shedload of those D530s at work, we bought about 250 of them at one point.

Now the recovery disk I don't know if we have (probably threw them out), however I can probably get you a software image with all the drivers already integrated if that's any use.

I believe the LAN cards in them are Broadcom, but some may be Intel, they're a bit Citroenish in that regard...

I'll check tomorrow.

USB support in XP is supposed to be 2.0 complient from the outset, however never say never. Is there any reason you can't install SP3? What sort of issues are you having?

In my experience SP2 gives USB 2 compliance, but between SP1 and SP2 there were shed loads of updates, and which one gave USB2 compliance I couldn't say.

There's not a lot of reason to not be running at least SP2, preferebly 3, in the current security climate to be honest.

Not to mention the shedload of bugs it resolves.

I love SP3. It's brought in so much work, and the symptoms so easy to diagnose. Getting rid of it is a process, but most clever people turn on automatic updates again, ' cause that's what you do isn't it?' and it get loaded again.

Yes, it's loaded with bugs - I won't have it on my Windows machines - but Bill Gates can be so good for business when he screws up. Just think of Win ME.

I honestly can't think of one problem machine I've had which has been caused by SP3, I install it on everything we get in and have never had an issue.

Maybe I'm just very lucky?

Only problem I've come across is when the PC was running a OEM image that was created on a Intel PC then used on AMD powered PCs. Other than that, all fine.
