Morning Folks,
Doing a trawl on Planete Citroen this morning, I was shocked to discover that strut tops are still proving to be problematic on the new hydractive Citroens!
Notably this poor ROI Plated C6
More trawling led me to the C6 owners forum when I posted a link to the above picture.

Hi Robert
Frightening pictures.
Do I gather that all this mayhem was caused by a failed circlip? It beggars belief!!

It seems that way Ken.
These C6s have pyrotechnics in the bonnet hinges as well which will increase repair costs considerably if they are damaged too.

Looking a bit further at the Planete Citroen posts suggests that a weld attaching a support plate to the strut can fail?
Whatever is the real reason for failure the root cause appears totally different to the well known XM/Xantia strut top rubber tearing and/or rust problem and probably will result another own goal for Citroen.

So
this is the real reason they're phasing out hydraulic Citroens, after 20 years of development they still can't perfect the art of building a faultless strut top

They observed that bx's strut tops are too good and never brake and that's a bad thing for the money income from spare parts so they designed one that fail over time.

yep, then they priced them by calculating their weight in gold multiplied by the failure rate percentage by the time they are 10 years old plus 80% divided by the amount of flying pigs seen in bognor regis on the fith sunday of the month.
The parts are then held in stock somewhere in the sahara desert, once an order is placed they are transported by a mature tortoise to the supplying dealer.
