Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

Possible redundancy notice!

Post by demag » Mon Jul 13, 2009 7:10 pm

Our customer has told us they want to save £90k off the contract price so today eight engineers have been put on notice of possible redundancy. That'll be a nice 60th birthday present. If I'm unlucky enough to be picked I can't see anyone employing me again. And I still owe £16k on the mortgage! Well if it happens it happens not a lot I can do except wait.

Me likewise. The TV trade collapsed about five years before I retired after 45 years in it, so we started the B&B business, on a good week my wife can earn more from that than I ever did from repairing TVs. If it happens, I hope something turns up for you Dave.

Not a nice situation.

Presumably though the customers still have the kit that will need attention ---- any prospect of going freelance ? Wouldn't be the first time departing staff have taken customers with them. All the best.

I don't wish to depress you Dave but I am still out of work after being made redundant in February! I am 53 and am not getting any interviews. I have been told by the Job Centre people to remove my date of birth from my CV!

Thanks for all the thoughts lads. First meetings tomorrow. They are looking to lose two engineers, one from each site. There are no guarantees, could be anyone.

Bitontheside. Good luck looks like you need it more than me!

Not 2 hours later I had a phone call asking me if I wanted a job - I may be starting back in September!

Bitontheside, Congratulations! :D Hope it all goes really well for you. :D

I think if I go for another Xm it will be a basic 2.0L petrol. But at the minute with a Multipla and Bx AND possible axe it's not on the cards I'm afraid.
