Beware of Accumulators!

A rather interesting message seen on a vintage bus that used to ply its trade around Oxfordshire many years ago:
There was no similar interdiction about corner spheres so I guess they were OK on the seats
This was seen on a bus at the
Oxford Bus Museum.
An excellent day out and an absolute gem of a museum. The little Morris car museum is great too.
And they serve proper tea from a teapot in proper mugs; their bacon sarnies are pretty good too...

That is an amusing post Jim!! Strangely enough last weekend we went to the East Anglian Transport Museum near Lowestoft, Suffolk, which sounds like a very similar set up, except that the cafe was not that great! With regards, Matthew T.

Indeed Peter

As I explained to my friend who looked incredibly puzzled at the notice and then was even more bemused by the prospect of running a wireless from an accumulator and taking it on a bus journey to be charged

It used to be a staple task of both wireless shops and bicycle shops I believe.
Ahh those were the days, 2V accumulator for the filaments, a tapped 9v grid bias battery and a whopping 90 or 120v high tension battery.
How wireless has progressed

It seems a world away from the latest DAB radios...
