MoT pass
My 2.5 estate passed it's MoT yesterday with no advisories.
I half expected it to fail on the offside sill as I found a 10p sized hole along a weld that was done 2 years ago, I patched this up and painted it and both sills with black underseal and there was no mention of it in the MoT. I mean to get around to spraying the inside of the sills with some grease or waxoyl or the like but this won't improve the aesthetics of it, it's had two sets of welding to the sills and it's made it look a bit lumpy. I think it will probably need a bit of welding next year, just wondering if I could possibly salvage a decent set of sills off a donor car and transplant them to mine or is this infeasible?

Re: MoT pass
Well done. I would put oil in the sills, waxoil very often sets before it has crept into the seams which is where the rust starts. You can squirt it in from an oil can by removing one or more of the tread plate screws.

Well done on the MOT
What would you do, squirt it into the sills and then go for a drive so it had chance to run around and into all of the seams etc?
This seems like quite a good idea to me as waxoil is pretty thick and will cure quite quickly.
Fingers crossed for the Prestige's big day Jim

Peter, did you find this helped prevent your XMs from rusting?Peter.N. wrote:Well done. I would put oil in the sills, waxoil very often sets before it has crept into the seams which is where the rust starts. You can squirt it in from an oil can by removing one or more of the tread plate screws.

Re: MoT pass
I've got an old large syringe, to which i attach some clear tubing. 50/50 mix of engine oil and waxoyl warmed up in a saucepan, pour it into the syringe and inject into the sills with the tubing.

I like the idea of this too. Every little helps as they say. Good idea to use oil.
I'm sure you'll be fine Jim. Don't stress too much...although I know it's hard not to!

Re: MoT pass
I use either Waxoyl mixed with Millers rust preventative oil or Bilt Hamber rust-poofing oil. The Bilt Hamber stuff is better than Waxoyl, but the mix works well as the oil keeps creeping.

Re: MoT pass
I'm intending to use the Bilt Hamber stuff Will. Good tip about mixing it with the Millers oil...

Re: MoT pass
I wouldn't mix Bilt Hamber as that is more oily and works better anyway...but costs about twice the price of Waxoyl.
