How reliable is YOUR XM?

Post by citroenxm » Fri Nov 23, 2012 5:25 pm

As per the other two fourms, incase it gets missed...

Well.. For those people who THINK the XM is unreliable, well Ive just read a shock report in the Telegraph Online..

When your stuck at home, house bound you'll do anything to pass the time, anyway, I have the motoring section of the Telegraph book marked because some rather interesting stories DO turn up, not least this one.

They have got the top 10 LEAST Reliable cars.. the list is shocking.. The MORE Points they have the worse they are..

10. Citroen XM with 438 points
09. Land Rover RANGE Rover. 2002 on with 442 points
08. Porsche 911 2001 to 06 with 442 points
07. Bentley Continental GT 2003 on. with 490 points
06. Audi A6 Allroad 2000 - 2005 with 502 points
05. Mercedez CL 2000 - 2007 with 512 points
04. Mercedez V Class (Van) 1996 - 2004 with 547 points
03 Mercedez SL convertible 2002 with 555 points
02. BMW M5 2004 to 2011 with 717 points

and the shock top spot for least reliable car goes to..

01. Audi RS6 2002 - 2011 with 1,282 points

Sooo whos laughing now! The XM is the most reliable least reliable car!! Funny thing is most of the list is german, which the press would have has the best metal in the world.....

Whos laughing now!

Great one! How come the nineties citroen XM is still in the list with more modern crappy cars, I wonder?
Anyway, my 2 liter XM has been very good sofar. Very good except for the bloody ABS but that's all.

That does depend on what is classed as making it unreliable, however loads of more expensive Mercedes do suffer way too many faults.

Having said that, I was stuck in a jam on the M1 last night and what was broken down...an M plated series 2 Xm Exclusive.

I knew you were going to say that.

Having already done 12 hours and it being cold, very windy and just starting to rain, guess....

Also, at present I'm not in suitable condition to work on my own cars.

I'm guilty of driving past a broken down near-neighbour a few weeks ago in a Toyota Starlet. I used the same excuse. It was cold, pouring with rain and I had my daughter with me...

Anyway, it's most unlikely you can do much anyway unless you habitually carry tools and spares in the car. Best that can be done I guess is the offer of tea and sympathy and the use of a mobile phone if they don't have one...

Gosh Paul, you are of such polarised opinions  I can just imagine you driving past the poor unfortunate and shouting that at them

I always have breakdown cover on all the cars and touch-wood only had to use it once with a Citroen - when my V6 blew up its ignition coil...

I went for a decade with no breakdown cover then suffered a collapsed wheel bearing so took some out. I had ti use it when Mrs Dm came to recover me from Hospital and broke my car... ;) and then again when the Cobalt XM battery went South while out.

Only thing thats ever caused great issue with mine is a battery and an exceptionaly early head gasket failure at about 50k but other than that its been mostly bushes and joints that wanted doing at sensible sorts of ages, its been pretty good really considering its covered most of its 88k on the isle of wight.
