Q2-2020 Updated.

I have found a discrepancy in the reporting of five Series 1 Xm. DVLA have them recorded as LGV, not cars.

CITROEN XM SEI TURBO 1
CITROEN XM SEI TURBO AUTO 3
CITROEN XM TURBO D 1

The new totals for Q2-2020 are:

Total Taxed = 173. (20% attrition year on year)
Series 1 = 57
Series 2 = 116.

S1 are definitely holding steady now
To be fair they can't really fall much further. You'd like to think that those that are left are being treated well in their dotage.

Goldie will add to that number next spring but the 24v is long term . . . l-o-n-g term!

That's a lot of cars waiting for happier times, or to be cannibalized :?

Gee, they must have sold a lot in the UK when new..Here in Australia, I think the total number sold is only a little over 100...That's in the whole 11 years. Some yearly sales were single digits..Though, to be fair, they were frightfully expensive.. in 1990 they were just on $80kAU (40K GBP)..We only got the V6 Exclusive.

The v6-Exclusive is a Series 2 model, what versions were sold as Series 1 models?

I don't know the actual number sold in the UK, but around 20,000.
The Uk was the largest market for RHD.

The vast majority of those have been turned into Baked Bean tins...just the record remains.
When cars are scrapped, whoever destroys the bodyshell is meant to declare it scrapped to Dvla, but scrap yards and metal recyclers don't bother.
When SORN had to be declared annually there was an incentive to declare a car as scrapped, now it's continuous, the only reason a car is declared scrapped is if the registered owner notifies Dvla.

I understood the number sold new in Oz was c. 150 - which was 3 times the number of 605s sold (48) .

According to Red Book, all the new Xms sold through dealers in Oz were V6 autos, starting in 1991. PRV 12-valve, then the ES9J4 from late 1997. I don't know about trim levels on the earlier ones. There were of course a number of private imports, which had greater variety, eg. diesel engines.

Price dropped to $75,000 in 1994, but was fixed at $84,500 for the last 4 years.

Just came across an (Australian) review I haven't read before:

https://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/feat ... citroen-xm

The very first problem that he mentions with his '91 model is a cracked dash!! An Australian Xm with a cracked dash - who'd have thought it!

Actually the description of the bloke he bought the last one from sounds eerily like me & my cars: "Cracked dash, various malfunctionings and an owner with a graveyard full of other Citroëns and Peugeots should have alerted me."

Beyond the puff and bluster, John Wright is a pretty good journalist.
I echo the Xm-Accord-Xm bit...5 months of the brand new Accord makes you realise why you like the Xm so much, which allowed the Honda to find a new owner while still nearly new.
There was no difference in reliability, in fact the Honda had an Abs fault in the first 2 weeks, the Xm had only 2 minor faults in 50,000 miles.
