I agree Mark its a travesty that no one seems to care in the dealership....more so, there are people there who don't know the heritage of the marque. Surely as a dealer principle you would educate the staff on the history of the marque....watch a YouTube video for example on it.

As in your example with BMW Mark, I used to have a B4 passat 1995 estate. The dealership I used to go into for parts loved it and used to comment when I went in...great condition that, you just don't see them like that anymore. It makes a difference I think to have people understand the heritage. Surely it must help them sell cars...you can enthuse the customer more by selling the virtues of the brand.

Most cars now are sold on finance. No one cares about heritage, just the latest fashion icon and how much per month.

Any dealer principle will be focusing on sales and profit, not unnecessary baggage.

More's the pity, especially from an environmental perspective where so many "eco friendly" moderns are in fact built/sold and treated as "disposable" ("recyclable") when it doesn't take Swampy to know that each car produced is responsible for more pollution and waste/damage to nature in its very production than any "polluting" older car could ever produce in a lifetime on the roads even with the very worst maintenance and servicing.

For every new car sold/used/disposed of the planet gets another pounding when an older, already built and probably very reliable car would have done the same job, with less damage and with a damn sight more character and style than most of todays offerings.

And that's just one point of many why I believe in saving and running older/classic cars, not just at "toys" but also as daily transport, before we get into ease of maintenance/simple repairs, cost of parts, general reliability, comfort, cheaper running costs and better initial value for money, low/zero depreciation etc etc.

Of course that is not the car manufacturer/dealer's main agenda and they will always continue to make/sell new cars as that is how they survive, but a LOT more attention should be paid to those who choose to keep their previous offerings alive since there is money to be had in those areas also, not to mention brand loyalty when said older cars DO finally become impractical to daily drive/become rare through attrition, which could result in the owners moving onto one of their later cars as opposed to switching to another marque that offers better support and dealers with enthusiasm for the job.

Of course a manufacturer wants to sell the new product, it's how they make profit, but the information regarding the amount of energy and pollution caused when building modern cars is incorrect. About 20% of the overall energy and pollution of a car's life is in production.

A rather complex subject. The Guardian article suggests the carbon emissions due to manufacture exceed carbon emitted over lifetime use. But then there are the other factors such as nitrous gasses emissions, particulates and health issues in cities. Recycling costs and toxins treatment and disposal.

Q2 2015 figures out.

401 XM left on the road in UK and NI, 109 Series 1, 292 Series 2.

At the rate things are going, there will soon be more SM on the roads than Series 1 XM.

Matthew appears to have a Monopoly on Series 1 V6 12v cars, assuming all of his are on the road.

That is interesting Will and the on the road figure is certainly low, although apparently still 600 on SORN that seems a little difficult to believe! The total loss on this time last year is 30 cars. For S1 V6 there are 12No. 24v shown and I make it 35No. 12v, with the rarest model being the Si auto with just three examples. Only half of my XM are on the road at present with the other three on SORN. With regards, Matthew T.

Other previous XM sold and broken too many to mention!

Q3-2015 figures are now out.

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse/citroen/citroen_xm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/family/citroen_xm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On the road figures down to 390 from 446, so 56 off the road
SORN figures up at 613 from 570, so 43 more SORN.
Nett loss is 13 cars in the year, but 2015 figures now include Northern Ireland, so are not a true reflection and I'm not sure how many of the SORN will see the road again.

115 Series 1 cars left on the road, mainly down to Raynoon, Farnboroughflyer, Jamescarruthers, MTXM and whoever bought the SEI Auto from Rotherham recently...??

Ahh.... I have to admit that 3 of mine are SORN'd, with K-BAN being the only one in use. KVG will be taxed as soon as I get a tailgate sorted, CEO will be taxed when she passes her MOT and the early mandarin SED will be off the road for a while yet.
