insurance valuation

Post by robertmnorton » Tue Jan 01, 2013 12:42 pm

Hi all, going through the annual insurance renewal trawl now. Started with moneysupermatket.com, gasp! The automatic valuation box submitted £245 ! Have settled with Churchill with a more realistic personal valuation, although i'm sure in the event of even minor damage it is likely to result in a similar paltry settlement as a write off.

I think they automatically delete the 'insured value' as soon as they have your money and if they recover them in the case of an accident that's the last you are likely to see of them. When my wife wrote of the XM, fortunately it ended up in a hedge and bus shelter and as it was off the road the police allowed me to leave it there overnight so I got my friendly local garage man to recover it for me in the morning.

I phoned the AA when it happened but they apparantly wouldn't recover accident damaged vehicles which seems to be general, but after a considerable number of complaints they now will, or at least on my scheme they do, I have been with them for well over 50 years now so I get all sorts of freebees.

Robert, give Adrian Flux a call. I got an excellent deal from them for my XM on a classic policy.

It's limited mileage and you must also have a 'modern' insured on another policy - not necessarily with them...

If you can tolerate those two conditions the cost is really quite low. I'm paying £150 per annum for mine...

. . . Good idea to try some of the Classic Car insurers, who usually have an Agreed Value arrangement as part of their policies - also incorporating limited mileage, etc etc.

When one of my cars (a 1994 2.0sei turbo) was recently 'written off' by another driver I had to fight their Insurer for a sensible valuation and eventually got up to £1,100 from an original offer of £500 approx. I generally use Go-Compare or other such sites but had to accept Adrian Flux recently for insurance on my imported vehicle. Regards, Matthew T.

Regarding valuations you can get an official valuation done through the CCC if you are a member.

Part of the "classic car valuation and age authentication service"...

Thanks guys, i will research the links mentioned, so far Churchill have come up with £154.66 with guaranteed replacement vehicle at valuation £2500, with a hope to achieve around £1000 if necessary.

I was going to say the same, it doesn't come with many benifits but that's one of them :D Mine is around £200.00.
