You may recall I broke down in November and was recovered by the AA, I mentioned the disregard the patrolman had for the car by stabbing a screwdriver in the soundproofing/insulation to prop up the seat while he gained access to the in tank strainer.

I mentioned this when I put in a complaint of the time it took them to get me home in freezing conditions and they have written to me asking me to provide an estimate of how much it would cost to repair. I haven't a clue if it's even possible to repair or replace or what it would cost, it can't even be seen and I doubt it affects anything at all but it isn't the point, I was unhappy with the way he seemed to think because it wasn't a modern clone it could be treated like crap. Even when he removed the in tank strainer he was about to put it on the carpeting until I stopped him and gave him a bit of old cardboard.

I pay nearly £300 a year for my AA cover so I expect better than a nightmare 12 hour journey and a damaged car.

I think they only way you could probably repair it is by getting a secondhand peice insulation from another car - but is it worth the hastle?
I would forget about it if I were you, but then I'm old and don't have the energy for disputes.

That's a good idea, I will make the suggestion. As I don't think you can really give a realistic costing for something like this.

As you say the car damage is difficult to price.
Always more difficult to get actual money than a discount for next year.
You have two seperate issues here.
The other more important one is the disjointed and freezing recovery.
That is way outside their claimed performance.
Ask what were the results of their manergerial investigation into this failure.

For the shambles of a recovery trip I was given £50 compensation which I didn't think much of but since I was off to Australia, where I still am now I didn't have the energy to argue. They basically blamed it on using non AA trucks for the journey but this was rubbish as out of all 5 trucks only one was a non AA truck and only for 30 miles.
