Interesting in being the sister car to the XM and a bit about the new PRV 24V engine...

Ignore the bit that says it's a 405 road test, it's not! It is the 605...

The XM gets a few mentions...

Gosh how I wish Top Gear was still like that. Interesting and informative...

I have seen this quite few times now Jim. It is good. Chris Goffey is a bit of a Citroen nut too. I believe he has personally owned several BX's and a TA.

It is a nice car the 605, interestingly the 24V version was launched a year earlier than the XM. And yet they still didn't do anything about the oil starvation issues!
A gold one lived a couple of doors down during the 90's. remember it well... always thought it was a big 405 and strangely for such a big luxury car, the rear lights weren't impressive enough. I always thought they needed to be bigger. ;)

Quite like a dark grey one though...... 8-)

Dark grey.......you must be living in sunny parts! :) Almost every new car in Ireland is grey and I can't imagine why. Grey weather every day, if ever I bought a new car it would be colourful!

I don't remember them too much, but they were OK I think.

I just think they look best in dark charcoal grey. Deep metallic blue too maybe.
Wonder how many are left?

Not many I think Russ. They were never very plentiful to start with...

Indeed, just a giant 405, a car I have a great love for after owning a couple before the Citroen bug got hold of me, but I always thought a lot of it was out of proportion, not only the lights..

The 405 looks gorgeous and perfect. The 605 looks a bit like her tubby sister... Still a looker though and still easier on the eye than a lot of the contemporaries and dare I say it the current crop...

The current Peugeots are just ugly and poorly proportioned.

Pleased to see it's not only me who thinks so Will. They really seem to have lost the plot entirely over the last few years..

They need to get Pininfarina back to try to recreate the halcyon years of the 205 and 405. Whoever designs their cars nowadays must be a fan of obesity

Than goodness Citroen is not quite so badly affected but I fear it may only be a matter of time.

A well-crafted report, despite the reference to "3 doors"! Interesting, too, to see some of the creature-comfort widgets that Citroen didn't go for.

Many folk still think there's room for an intelligent car slot on UK tv. The current comic offering just doesn't cut it, although it is very, very good, reportedly, for BBC World Sales.

We had a number of 605s and S1 XMs as senior management cars at work (when the vehicles first appeared). After just over a year of use, company car fleet put them both on the no-no list, simply because of the depreciation - 65% and worse after 12 months! That loss has been our gain.

Worse, though, on the no-no list were the Alfa's: several actually spent more time in workshops than on the road. My personal work transport included a ZX 1.9D auto, and later a Xantia 1.8 auto. As I was leaving in 2002, the 607 caught my eye, as it was available new at almost-affordable (for the company) money. Didn't happen tho'.

I agree with all of that Chris... Keep the current comic TG for BBC2 and world sales by all means and perhaps look to do an intelligent TG for airing on BBC4; somewhere it would fit in a treat and be very well received.

Just keep Mr. Clarkson and Mr. Hammond away from it. James May might be OK but the other two are just buffoons or play it like they are although I do believe deep in Clarkson somewhere and struggling to get out there may be a sharply intelligent and witty person. Shame he doesn't get a chance to flourish on TG. I get my impression from reading his books which, by and large, are a good read. Of course he may indeed be a buffoon and his books are ghost-written. It has been suggested this is the case.
