MID and enforcement

Hi All

Got a letter today, postmark was from Milton Keynes.
From MID telling me that one of my cars was not on the Motor Insurers Database.
That if I did nothing I would get a fine.
So I checked with my Insurance Broker, quoting reg no.
They found that the Insurance Co. had dropped a bo*l*ck which would be corrected promptly.
As it was a multi vehicle policy I then tried MID for one of the other reg nos.
This to came up "NOT INSURED" in big red capitals.
I rang again to be told the insurer had owned up to dropping not one but the whole lot.
So I can expect another nine letters from Milton Keynes before this is finally sorted.
The interesting bit is that while the mistake was theirs the liability is mine.
Need to carry the policy certificates while driving for now just incase plod takes an interest.

Will be checking MID after each policy renewal or change from now on.

John

The worrying thing for the driver really is more than the ANPR cameras mounted on police cars around the country use this same database to alert the police.

So, although your properly insured, unless your very lucky you will get pulled over and your paperwork checked every time a police motorway car drives up to you!

I'd keep your documents on you! I've heard horror stories of people not showing up on the police check and getting a tug.

When I got my XM the insurance company said I was insured from 10am, but I went online and printed the new certificate just incase the database hadn't updated. Still in the glovebox probably!

Hi all, learnt my lesson whilst working in Madrid a long time ago, got a real grilling for not having the full documents with me at a roadside checkpoint. Same when in Toulouse, stopped by Douane - customs - on a border crossing, but having the old pink EU licence - no photo - needed my passport, and unable to provide proof of residence in France, was sternly advised to carry a utility bill.
Probably the best thing. Wont be long till its law!
Still carry all documents - including passport - although in the UK.
