Is it worth contemplating taking an XM to a dealer for servicing and repairs? I would have thought you'd have a better chance of finding someone who knows what they're doing than at your bog standard local garage. Otherwise I'll have to try to find a specialist locally, but that can be tricky.

For a standard service it is just a car. If you have a trusted local garage then send it to them. I do.

Personally I wouldn't.... unless you know your local dealer is good with XM's.

The XM has not been on sale since 2000, so there is a possibility the staff won't have the experience with them.
Then there is the issue of parts supply becoming thin on the ground. Most dealers don't even stock LHM anymore.
They'll also be the expensive option.

As Campbell has said though, really the engines and servicing is all relatively straight forward. So any garage should be able to service it.
Hydraulics...it would be wise to find a good specialist. There are many about.
