I was considering having a wee go at this...

Fleabay, and if my 2.1 hadn't blown up, I just might have bid on it, given its only up the road.

However, emailed the seller yesterday and he said he wanted at least 1150 as that's what he spent on it recently, and it was one of these 'If I don't get what I want then I'm pulling the auction' jobs, which really piss me off. Then he registered a dummy email account under his own name and bidded to push the price up.

I also have it on good authority that that dent which has been there 'a month', has actually been present for much longer, and indeed it seems so in the pictures.

Still, would have been a good project car, pity...

I can understand him for wanting a decent price for his car, but I don't know why he can't simply set the starting price at what he wants, or put a reserve on it. And as for bidding on his own auction :o , does Ebay actually allow that? :?

Presumably he's the winning bidder.......? If so, he can give himself positive feedback (both ways)......after he's paid himself for the car of course

I'm not surprised you wanted the car Ciaran, it does look nice. I particularly like the view from the drivers seat.
I particularly like the facia and instruments.........certainly more extreme than the XM.

Mmm... I might have considered a diesel , I have had three Safari's, the last one I did over 150k in, lovely cars, better than the XMs in some respects - a project car I dont need at the moment :D I am still trying to fit an escort 1.8 engine into my sons P100 pick up, when I eventually finish that I have the white XM to get on the on the road, and then....

No, and I believe that if they find out you have done it then they terminate your account. It is covered by section 5.6 of their T&Cs.

Yep.

As already said by minijet, if you want a set price, set a reserve!
The ones that don't in order to encourage bidding, but then have a hidden one, enforced by a 'If I don't get what I want I'm pulling the auction, and taking my ball with me', really annoy me.
If the shoe was on the other foot, and you had the winning bid in their auction, then decided you didn't want to pay that much, they would be spitting fire, and straight off to report you to Ebay!

Double standards.

Hi Ciaran

There is a nice silver 97 2.5TD estate with a south of your border registration, on ebay at the moment , Dundalk.

Hi John,

Is that the one sitting around 1000 Euro at the moment?
Robert did send me the link to it. Could be tempted for a 2.5 sometime but I don't know if I could have an estate.
Plus the 2.1 is about to eat all my money

Nice find though, Dundalk isn't too far away really, so if any other site members are thinking of bidding, I'm sure I could arrange to go and inspect, or pickup for someone.

Hi Ciaran

Personally I find the estate by far the most useful vehicle. I had a mental aberation a few weeks ago and went to buy a carpet, forgetting I only had the hatch, as son has borrowed the estate and sons wife is driving the other one, we just got it in! Within the last few weeks I have carried furniture, diy materials, the dog frequently and a few months ago two diesel engines and a gearbox. I find the hatch very limiting an fact I may well sell it when I get the white estate on the road - but it's horses for courses of course.

That estate is nice and tidy, I sent willie and e-mail about it, and he fitted the engine to it and says that it is a good car. I'm glad I'm over in France, Dundalk is only down the road from my home, I would be too tempted to go and see it, and get hooked onto the 2.5 power delivery, and then have no more money, and another XM to add to my singnature list below!

Well if its has the expense of an engine change, and the works been done by Willie, the cars going to be in very good nick indeed I would suspect.

Totally appreciate what you're saying about the estates Peter, I suspect if I had one I would never go back, so am afraid to try it at the moment! I do love the look of the hatchbacks though.
