Overall it looks OK, but it's good to see you are looking at the right area first, Norman. :)

Looks like it will polish up nicely enough, hate the steering wheel though, is that just a giffer-tastic cover to cover the possibly kackered leather steering wheel?

The fabric is, for me, depressing. It´s the kind of vandal-proof vague swirly pattern I expect to find in a rail carriage operated by a cost-cutter company. And I never warmed to the Xantia-esque dashboard. "Jacques, ask a junior designer to copy the Xantia theme onto the XM package...I really don´t want to put any of our senior people on this. It´s not worth it. I have allocated €20 for this facelift, we´re not goint to get a cent back but I can´t allow the 1988 IP to carry on as it is.... I talked with Calvet and he agrees. Art also agrees. I will book 6 weeks in the clay modelling studio but I am sure we can do most of the revisions on screen."
We really do need some better interior colours for modern cars, don´t we. It´s not as if grey and black should be banned but wouldn´t it be nice if there were other tones available for those of us who don´t spec our car for the next owner.

That's actually standard PSA base-model stuff..

It's actually not at all bad up close and is unbelievably hard-wearing..

As a Xantia person first and foremost I find the S2 XM dash is much better than the Xantia one it is based upon but I agree the S1 XM is much lovelier.

It might be standard PSA base model stuff and very hard wearing but high Martindale values don´t cut it for me. It still looks grim, as if designed to hide chewing gum marks. For me the Romana velour was the pick of the XMs fabric options. It was also hard wearing and really warm to the touch. I miss it in my car which has black hide. Practical but so very boring. It´s also true that the XM Mk2 dash is nicer than the Xantia but that´s faint praise in my book. There´s much about the S2 that appeals but the way they messed with the interior really spoils it for me. The mid 90s wasn´t a good time for fabrics in any arena. Maybe with another 20 years´hindsight they could redeem themselves. Right now they merely look dated rather than retro. If I could combine S1 looks with S2 refinement I´d be very happy. As it stands, I am forced to stick with the S1. Ideally, with the brown plastic but did that only come with brown hide or was there a beige velour?

Spoke to Ian on the phone apparently one of the front struts is not too good did a vehicle check on it, came back good apart from a milage discrepance ian didn't know and was surprised about it, also said the front jacking points were bent inwards but it wasn't rusty?
