Question, Why is it for scrap? Is its MOT and Tax out and simply needs some repairs to get thru?

Hello
Apologies for the lack of info
It's a 1997 vsx 2.5td
Tax till end October, mot mid November 13
I am based in the north east (Redcar by the sea which is near to Stockton on tees)
I am the third owner
Previous owner Citreon enthusiast had replaced the timing belts and all the spheres, but sadly just recently it has been leaking fluid from the osf wheel area, I have been informed by a chap on the forum that it will not be the Actual sphere but a rubber pipe which apparently perishes.
Overall condition few minor dents, worst being a scrape to the near side not that bad really but it is there previous owner mis judged a gate whilst reversing, osf wing has rust around 3 inches by 2 inches near to the drivers door.
Tiny cigarette burn on drivers seat (previous owners), abs light stays on and occasionally the air bag light flashes,
Mechanically it's spot on, I have used he car on numerous long distance journeys returning 40 mpg and that wasn't hanging around,
All the electrics work, tow bar, standard sound system was removed for a CD player.
I would love to keep her (even thinking of parking it up and just leaving it)
Mot wise I'm convinced the leak would be an issue, abs light is on and both front tyres are down to around 2-3 mm but the spare is new,
Some advise please
I have always owned BMWs as mentioned this was supposed to be a short stop gap car but I can see the addiction there great cars.
Thanks

Sorry I have all the original hand books, and it's registered 14-11-1996 not 1997
Has the full load cover, suspension goes up and down when required to do so,
Thanks

That leaking strut return pipe costs £10, but often just needs the end trimming back a bit and refitting.

The ABS light might well just be the sensor connector being corroded, failing that a sensor.

Or grunge between the sensor and the ring ;)

I'm pretty local to you, just Hartlepool.

What mileage has it done?

What would you be looking for to take it complete?

Thanks.
