Hello all, just trying to get my 24 v back to life, been sitting for over two years. Will not start, and have checked fuel after low warning light stayed on permanently, have topped up, fuel light remains on, and no fuel being transferred to high pressure pipes in engine bay. Wanted to know where I can find pump and filter??? Just want to check if it has been charged and has given up. Also no audible noise on first turn of ignition, normally here a quick buzz sound from under car.... Or am I going mad? All help appreciated - 1989 xm 24 v 3 litre.

Hi: I have just spent the best part of six weeks finding the right pump for my 2.0 litre 1990 XM. Beware of the parts codes for the item. There is no part code for the pump unit itself, but the assembly it sits in.

There appear to be a wide variety of pumps available but not all fit the pump assembly. My original pump was a Bosch (and these are still available for about £90). I ended up using a €20 pump from a dealer in Latvia but I needed the spacers from a third pump. These are black rubber rings that close the gap between smaller diameter pumps and the armature of the pump assembly.

Hi there, sadly the original pump was the issue, along with a broken sender unit for the fuel gauge. As I am in South Africa, parts are in short supply. I have located a BMW pump from Bosch itself that has the same specs and delivers 3.8 bar , somewhat identical to the original pump and is also identical in size and shape, right down to terminals and outlets. I paid the equivalent of 60 quid so I am very pleased and will fit it back into the housing tomorrow. A quick repair on the broken sender unit wire should have my beautiful 24 v up and running again. Thank you for you comments, will let you know how I fair.

No car manufacturer makes their own parts, they generally buy in off the shelf ones, so it's not surprising a Bosch pump for another car is correct.

In my own case, with the help of Robert and a company in Latvia I found a new pump for €20 and some spacers to help it fit into the old assembly. (By the way Robert, I still must owe you some money?). Alas, much of the €480 I saved by rejecting the option of a brand new Citroen fuel pump assembly I have wasted in labour costs. I suppose half of that cost was inevitable but the other half just consists of my mechanic putting the car on a jack and fiddling with bits. What a nuisance.
