I suspect the figures for the V6 were used by mistake. Ian says it was the most economical car there.

Will very, very kindly let me borrow his XM for this feature. He didn't bat an eyelid as I swapped my shabby 2CV for this lovely XM. It drove beautifully and I think Mandarin is my favourite XM colour.
The mpg error is not my own, though I was perhaps a bit conservative in stating it as 40mpg.
It entirely reignited my desire for hydropneumatic Citroens, to the point that shortly afterwards, I found myself owning a BX again. I still want an XM, but funds do not allow at the moment - not event the £250 one advertised on here!
I thought the XM looked right at home amongst the other Car Of The Year winners. It's inclusion was very much driven by the PC editorial team - they love French motors.

I was a bit disapointed to see though that the XM had the shortest colum on it in the whole coty feature. Others had more written. However all in all a fantastic issue of pc as a whole. The Renault 9 is another favorite of mine also the talbot albeit the later solara for me and also the NSU Ro90 was another. Then also a CX resto article too.

I was just glad they thought to include it to be honest, though there's never enough space for me to really get my love of hydropneumatic suspension across! So I wrote this Blog piece.

I just bought a copy today and didnt realise Will that you were in it this month

Its a great feature and issue with other citroens in it too
Its great to see french cars getting the exposure they deserve
What was mad for me was realising that the Renault 9 got car of the year also.....A renault 9 was my second car and also my first venture into french car ownership

It was a truly brilliant car and utterly reliable in 1.4 litre form....superbly comfortable with rocking front seats...and also it had the red central locking button talked about in the feature,,,it was by the base of the steering column on mine

Daft thing was you had to enter the vehicle with the key in the drivers door, then reach down and press the red button to open the other doors "centrally" Kind of daft really
I bought it from a local citoren independant garage in oswaldtwistle a few doors away from our house. A one owner car X reg with just 52k miles on the clock. I loved it
The only other car id owned at that time was a vw polo classic so the renault was amazing spec in comparison...even had electric windows too
