Creaking suspension

Post by scooters » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:55 pm

So my XM has spent most of the last 4 months sitting outside Phils house in Devon.
Mrs s drove it today and declared that it was rather creaky. I hadn't noticed but yes...The near side front does create when lifting or sinking.

Now owning a CX I would put thus down to lack of use..my CX used to do it with use it has stopped doing it. I always put that car through suspension aerobics every week or so. Up and down a couple of times...

Now the xm I have has the anti sink device so I'm not as familiar with it.

Is thus creaking likely to be due to low use or should I be concerned?

If is only creaking whith the engine switched off, then it is probably just the front anti-sink valve oscillating while the pressures settle. It seems to be common and incurable.

What if it's creaking with the engine on?..

Hi scooters, creaking ? Is this like the sound of distorting rubber parts or metallic ? And can you identify location ? Suspension parts are most likely, look at the strut tops in the engine bay when moving steering wheel lock to lock (with the help of an assistant). Bounce the car on each corner to help identify location.

The defining question is whether its squeaking at the front or rear, because rear means probably means radius arm bearings.
